Product Description
If you’ve ever used a thumbstick or joystick, you’ll know how intuitive in-game movement feels with that type of control—the more the stick is pushed, the faster you go and vice versa. With scaling inputs based on how far a key is pressed, Razer Analog Optical Switches work in a similar way and are ideal for racing games, flight sims and the like.

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I tore through reviewing gaming and a few MX and Mac keyboards for upgrading my MacbookPro which will not update anymore (more of a Google, gmail, browsers refuse to update or access my mail. Absolutely nothing wrong with it otherwise). Setting up my new iMac mini m2, my old Bluetooth Mac keyboard will not connect (I love my old style Mac bluetooth keyboard. It’s a classic beauty, louder clicks and feels better than flat laptops, it’s buttery). I’m also connecting to an Apple 30” Cinema Display (2560x1600) from mid-2000’s. (Used a Club dvi-d hdcp off version adapter for the M2.)
So I went to Best Buy and shopped all over on Amazon and YouTube, and a few Reddit opinions. It’s the weekend, if I want a board by tomorrow I needed to make a decision. It’s paralyzing. Did I make the right decision. I was reviewing mechanical keyboards mostly on YouTube. I recall what I felt at bb, but didn’t know what I really was looking at. I wanted to walk home with one they have on sale, but it’s so ugly. (I may go back yet.)
Do I go with Brown, Blue, Orange, Red switches? I’m geeky enough to want to build my own now, but smart enough to hold off.
I saw a YouTube talking about Optical vs Mechanical. I decided to just go for the optical, but come on, there a price limit somewhere. So I decided this keyboard. As I wait for it to arrive next day, I watch specific videos on this keyboard itself. Of course you then get all the hate/love/hate. But the problem with about every video is they were given a smaller version, it was only an “unboxing” (I really hate those, they lack true experience with it)or were the gaming snobs. (I’m an Adobe and high performance snob myself, so I like them! But I can also see I’m not at their level.)
I’m using this for a life living on a computer experience. A graphic designer, Adobe Pro, tactile 3D artist.
This is not too loud, quieter than my old Mac usb keyboard. Pressing keys sound far better than what you hear on YouTube videos. They have lovely dings that sound and feel right. The texture of the keys is new to me. I really like the subtle changes of RGB color as it sits here, or when I use it. They gently fade in and around. It’s chill, yet lets you know it’s ready. My Mac laptop is an ugly bright white that is not desirable on, but necessary at night at times. Those keys are so worn through, the letter E is transparent clear instead of black key.
I haven’t used this keyboard extensively yet. But what a joy to find I made a great decision. It feels so comfortable (like perfect clothing) and sounds like it should (to me at least). The volume control dial is superb where it at. This keyboard has great form and function.
The wrist rest is more of an elbow rest for me. It’s showing a divit already. But it’s still a little nice swag.
Just sayin, loving it with my new Mac Mini M2. Something like a great keyboard is like having your favorite coffee. It’s beautiful. Great job Razer! Thank you.
The keycaps form to your fingertips, press down smoothly, and release as fast as you do. The orange switches are easily 50-60% quieter than the green switches, which is necessary if you plan to do any form of voice calls while you're online. Another blessing of this keyboard is having a volume dial on the upper right corner, which makes it easy to adjust your overall sound level on the fly.
Lighting and key function is fully customizable using the Razer Synapse app. You're able to choose several preset effects, adjust their tempo, and customize the colors used for the effect, allowing for a wide range of aesthetic. Functionality wise, you're also able to use Synaspe for macros or AHKs, which can take you from spamming one key to just holding it down with the same effect and more.
Sure, it's not a custom mechanical setup with exotic Japanese switches, but it gives a premium enough feel. I love the sound dampening, the smoothness of the keys, and the relatively short actuation distance. It's not silent, per se, but it's the quietest keyboard in my house (including various laptops).
I've seen comments online suggesting the keys don't light up bright enough. I'm partial to more subdued keyboard lighting, and I can vouch for the fact that I haven't had to dim the board much. Other brands use lighting that glows substantially around the keys, instead of just through the letters. Some of Razer's marketing images show bright halos around the keys, and some show none at all. In practice, they glow a little at the top of each key, but not very much at all.
The only serious downside I encountered was with Razer's software. It's not very intuitive in general. But my specific complaint is that it isn't easy to use external tools to switch game profiles. I really wish these hardware companies would open source their software!
Now, for why I returned it in a week. The Huntsman V2 Analog popped up on sale over Black Friday weekend for only a few buck more than I spent. I figured it was a no-brainer upgrade--how wrong I was.
The analog version has added lighting around the base of the board (it looks great!) and offers analog functionality on every single key. Plus it has slightly stiffer springs. Unfortunately, it has none of the sound dampening of the regular Huntsman V2, and the keys give a loud, drum-like clack when bottomed out or rebounding.
Analog, on a keyboard, is a bit of a gimmick, but one cool thing the analog version offers is adjustable actuation points. This gives you the ability to tune your typing and gaming experience.
I agonized over the stiffer springs and loud typing. Ultimately, I returned the regular, quiet Huntsman V2 in favor of keeping the loud, but adjustable, Huntsman V2 Analog. Though I very seriously considered keeping both!!

Even compared to the previous Huntsman TE (which my father owns) I can hear, and feel the difference. The keyboard itself has a nice weight to it, and feels very solid (just don't shake it). My one complaint is that sometimes the keys can feel a little squeaky, like they're not lubed enough, and it's pushing air out of the switches.
One side note, is that currently on Linux the LED lights don't work. The opensource software hasn't been updated for it yet, though it is almost finished, the bulk of the work has been done. So soon enough this will be fixed. On windows however, it works right out of the box. Absolutely fantastic keyboard.
I would say that the price is way too high. I don't mind to spend the money on a solid keyboard for gaming, because I use it a lot. I've worn through the keycaps many times, and I know these Razer keycaps don't wear out. For me it's worth it, but it's still over priced. You could probably get a similar feeling keyboard for cheaper, but then you're not getting a Razer, and probably not a Synapse compatible keyboard. You need to weigh those things for yourself, and decide what's import to you.
