How Successful is IVF?

There are many factors that may determine your success with IVF Treatment.

Age – IVF Success Factor

Historic data suggests that age is one of the most important success factors when it comes to IVF. As soon as you pass year 35 mark, your fertility starts to drop, and particularly after 40 years, you are left with less than 15%-20% chances of success even if your hormones and reproductive health were normal. Therefore younger women have a higher chance of IVF success as compared to older women. According to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine ASRM, the chance of success for women over 42 is just 4% and for women under 35 is actually 40%. Therefore it is important not to waste time and seek treatment at the right age.

Previous Pregnancies – IVF Success Factor

If you conceived previously with the same husband you have a higher chance of success when you attempt IVF. However, if you have never got pregnant ever before, then your chances would be reduced. There is no reason to lose hope because of this since reduced chances do not mean it’s impossible.

Healthy Lifestyle – IVF Success Factor

A healthy BMI significantly increases your chances of success with IVF. In particular, if you have recently reduced 5 – 10 kilos, even though your BMI is not ideal, you still have a high chance of success. In addition, if you do not smoke and maintain an active lifestyle and healthy diet at least 3 months prior to having IVF then your chances would be improved.

The Clinic – IVF Success Factor

There are many IVF Clinics around but not all of them get a high success rate. Especially with Pakistan’s economy, some patients can only ever afford just one IVF cycle. Therefore when reaching for which clinic you want to go to you should consider the following important factors:
• Pregnancy rate is important but checks the carry home baby rate.
• The IVF Lab should be ISO 9001:2015 certified.
• The environment is positive and not stressful.
• The staff and IVF Consultants are experienced and well trained.
