I always hid in the shadows, feeling invisible. Simple, carefree, happy yet aimless...that was me.

But everything changed the night that I met Matthew Devaro.

I was mesmerized by his raw power and quiet authority. He looked like something out of a Grecian myth: so chiseled, refined and devastatingly handsome. He was easy to talk to and I thought we clicked.

A chat at a bar, a coffee at his hotel room, and a single rose later, we found ourselves grudgingly connected. But the morning brought with it trouble and a whole new side to Matthew: cold-as-ice, arrogant and insanely wealthy.

I delved into his opulent world, in a bid to protect the one thing I couldn’t bear to lose. This man who wanted for nothing, and had too much of everything, found himself needing someone...me.

A deal was struck, and we had to deliver on it, but we clashed like fire and ice.

I was sure that I despised him until suddenly…I wasn’t. Beneath the flames of disdain that flickered between us, I felt a bright new spark ignite. And as I cut through his complex layers and inched ever closer, I discovered the unexpected…my own strength, my own voice and...my own place in the light.

The lines between good and bad, right and wrong blur in the first installment of the Tricked Series.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for tricked!

If you’re into a good slow burn, enemies to lovers, billionaire romance this one is for you. I fell in love with the characters. It was a fun and refreshing story about a simple country girl, Josephine who meets this billionaire, Matthew during her highschool reunion. However, how they end up together is actually quite comical and completely unexpected.
~
Unlike other books, Jo is able to find herself and her confidence without the help of Mattew. And of course who doesn’t enjoy a strong female character. The characters aren’t bland and throughout the whole book you are able to relate and feel with them. Overall it felt like a mini vacation since it takes place in Rome. I was sad when I realized I was reading the last chapter cause I wanted more of them!

I was so happy and exited when author reached me and offered to read her book. I checked what it is about and one sentence of “Billionaire romance” made me want to join in and read the new upcoming book.

Tricked is about young girl, who was bullied, pushed around and finally gets guts to stand for herself at the high school reunion, but when adrenaline went off, she accidentally meets one a hell good looking guy when she pukes on his shoes. After that, even that is not enough, she is being tricked into something that will change her future forever.

The beginning started quite easy, and of course I thought it will be like the others : girl meets big corporation ceo and they both will fell in love... HAHAHA not in this one. Literally author tricked me with the most unexpected plot twist, that I was so attracted to the story and what will happen with the characters that I went to sleep at midnight wondering maybe I should reed one more chapter...

The ending of the book made me double check the last pages as I wasn’t ready to finish it, the whole tense, hatred between characters, the way author managed to grow and develop the world, and the main character Jo is incredible.

There were couple of times that I thought Josephine is annoying, but during the whole story I came to like and understand more. I definitely recommend this book, to escape, to travel especially if you like books like this :billionaire romance -affairs.

My favourite quote of the book : “ You control what you can, and make peace with what you can’t”.

This was such a cute lighthearted book. I was hooked from the first second! The main character is just so relatable that you can’t help loving her! Not to mention the smoking hot love interest! The book was very well written and was a nice smooth read. I loved that the majority of the book was set in Italy. It was nice to get to read a little bit about Rome and Italy. The only thing that kind of bothered me was how the whole issue arose. Being drugged / married by a random stranger seemed a little far fetched for me, but it also reminded me of hallmark movies. How the situation is so wild but kind of works because you know it’s a cheesy romance? That’s totally my thing though, so I still loved it! I highly recommend you give this a book a read! For a debut novel it’s incredible!! I can’t wait for the second book!

I really enjoyed this book, I finished it in one sitting!
This was exactly the kind of book I needed at the moment as I was going through a slow read.. I loved that the book was fast paced, adventurous with the right amount of drama!
One other thing I loved about the book is the setting being in Rome instead of the typical US or the UK. Made me wanna travel, and well, that's not happening anytime soon..
I cannot wait to read the next book to see how their story unfolds!

You can read all of my reviews on my blog at Nerd Girl Loves Books.

This is a cute contemporary romance that is a quick and easy read. Strangers Jo and Matthew have an unexpected encounter in a bar that ends up in his hotel room. When they wake up they find themselves apparently “married”. Called to Rome for an emergency, but eager to sort out their mess ASAP, Matt asks Jo to come with him. Doing the unthinkable, she agrees. Jo and Matthew are total opposites. Jo is crushed when she finds out the bills have piled up and her family has to sell their beloved ranch –Tessa. Matthew is a ruthless CEO with a brilliant mind, and he’s none other than the heir to the Devaro family’s mega fortune and business empire. Jo agrees to stay in Rome to help his family’s public disaster in exchange for help to save her family ranch. But can she survive Matthew’s family and ex-girlfriend?

Jo is completely out of her element in Rome, but after the first few disasters involving Matthew’s, ex-girlfriend and mother, she finally finds her voice and stands up for herself. Her sensibility and humility come through and starts to affect everyone around her. I really enjoyed seeing how she blooms into a self-confidant woman.

I have to admit, I did not like Matthew very much at all. I thought he was unnecessarily harsh in his treatment of Jo, and his arrogance, indifferent, uncaring personality was hard for me to read. Every time he put Jo down or was mean to her I cringed. I mean, I get it, the author needed to depict the two MCs differences, I just thought it could be toned down a bit.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Katie and Brey PA and the author. All opinions are my own.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC for this book and I fell in love with this book.
I read it in 1 go, I didn't want to do anything except read what happened next! This is nothing like something ever read and it is definitely unique and mind-blowing!!

I loved Josephine, I found myself relating to her a lot. She just wants a peaceful life, for herself and her family. She has a lot of potentials to grow and is still figuring herself out. A lot of people see it as a bad thing but in reality, she represents a lot of people, who are unsure and still need time to find themselves.
I loved Jo, she is a sweet, lovable, innocent and unique character, a person we all have inside us and can relate to. She feels so much but she is no push-over, our girl is smart and stronger than you think.

Matthew is a guy with a lot of pressure on him! His whole life is planned out and sometimes I feel bad for him… sometimes!
Most of the time I want to punch him, he can be a cold-hearted b*****d.

Both Jo and Matt have been placed in an “interesting” situation and you get to see them grow and learn how to deal with it. This is a slow journey, you can see them slowly growing, dealing with lots of drama and beginning to like each other slowly, making the experience really sweet and you begin to root for them!

I am really interested in the side characters and I cannot wait to see what happens next for them. My favourite character is Natalia, she is strong, bubbly, a total bad-a** and she won my heart! I loved her relationship with the other characters.

Tricked has the potential to go far and I cannot wait to read what happens next! R.M.T. Jay has done an amazing job and I cannot wait to see what she will do next!

Tricked is a fake relationship/billionaire romance, with a dashing heroine. Josephine and Matthew end up accidentally married. He has an image to uphold and so they fake pretend for the sake of it.
Which isn't as easy as it seems when Matthew's got an on and off girlfriend Leila. She's the epitome of beauty, sadly she's as exualy rotten on the inside. Every chance she gets, she puts Jo down, and Matthew belives anything Leila says. His mother isn't much better. The only true friend she has is his sister Natalie.

No matter what is being thrown at her, Jo stays true to herself and she stands up for what she believes in. People start noticing her kind heart and so does Matthew....

Tricked is a delightful read, full of charming moments that will warm your heart. It almost feels like a mix of of Disney fairy tales with a modern spin to it. I can't wait for more.

Tricked was not my usual cup of tea but it sure kept me awake all night trying to get to the juicy end! Both characters see such development through out the entire book both in how the live and how they love. This appealed to me as a woman in her mid- thirties.

It's always good to hear an underdog story, and this was full of cute twists and incredible turns. It was a rom com on a rainy night or comfort food on your period. It was incredibly satisfying to read and a real escape for me.

Read it if you want to feel smothered in good vibes but also because its about a girl who stands up for herself against the most bizarre odds.

I was lucky to read the ARC of this book. I had no idea what to expect, but one thing is for sure I didn't expect to stay up all night and read it in one sitting!!

The story flows at the perfect pace, not too slow that you get bored, or too fast that you feel like something is missing. You get sucked in from the first chapter and instantly fall in love with the female MC.

I can not wait to see what happens in the next book. I have already messages R.M.T.Jay to tell her to HURRY UP and get the second book ready. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT!!

I could write so much about this book and the Author (who by the way I am sure is goingnto have a long successful writing career in front of her) but as the book has not been officially released yet I will keep this semi short 😉

So in short, pre order TRICKED which comes out 22nd June, schedule the day as a "non-adulting" day, put your phone on Do Not Disturb, stock up on drinks and snacks of choice, sit back and just ENJOY!!! #tricked

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book. I really enjoyed it, I read the whole book in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down! It's the perfect easy read for summer. You feel as if you're right there in Italy while reading the book. Covid means summer holidays are looking unlikely, but reading this book is the next best thing!

This is only the first book in the series, but it already feels like there has been so much character development. I love that Jo stands up for what she believes in no matter the circumstances or what other people might say or think. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series when it comes out to see what happens with Jo and the other characters.

If this isn't on your TBR list be sure to add it!

Tricked was a great read. I do love a slow burn and that's what you get in this book. One night is all it takes to change the course of your life for good.
After suffering the fall out of a trick a con man played on them, Josephine and Matthew are stuck with each other for the foreseeable.  Despite only just meeting they have no choice but to try and make the most of the situation they've been forced into. Plenty of outside influences bring the drama upping the angst, and I loved how Josephine is a strong heroine who holds her own. As the book went on there was some more tender moments and I think its going to get more emotional as the series develops. After this ends on a cliffhanger im excited to see what's going to happen next for Matthew and Josephine, and how their relationship is going to change. An easy, light read, perfect for a sunny day!

So I got an ARC of the first book of the Tricked Series by @rmtjay_books !! I got it exactly when I had finished a very slow book & was looking for a fast paced read.

Jo, a young girl who is still figuring out her future, meets Matthew who is insanely wealthy & good looking. Due to an unexpected twist of fate their lives become bound together in a way they would have never imagined!!

It was a quick read & some fun drama that kept me turning the pages! Most of the story is based in Italy & reading about it made me wish that I could travel (but of course we can't, thanks to Rona!!). Can't wait to read the 2nd book to find out what happened...

I was kindly gifted an ARC copy.

Really enjoyed this! Jo and Matthew were so good together. Even though I wanted to punch Matthew in the face at times. He turns out to be fine. Josephine was such a sweet Heart. I loved this heartwarming romance with all the ups and downs that comes with a new adventure, a new country, new friends and finding love. Amazing enemies to lovers story. Looking forward to reading what happened next.

I received an ARC copy of this from the author and I wasn’t at all sure what to expect as I don’t usually read romances. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised the writing style was really good nothing cheesy or cringey. The story although predictable was entertaining and I read it all in one day and I’m now keen to read the next two books to see what happens next! Would love to see this as a tv show or movie as well!

enjoying the story of a rural American family, told through a relatable inner monologue, as Jo begins to search for her life path. Despite her youth, Jo makes me feel like I'm listening to an old soul describe how different she is from the crazy kids in the modern era, and how she is making light of her need to adapt. The imagery has made me laugh out loud .

I very much enjoyed this book! It had just the right amount of tension, romance and adventure for me! Usually I don't read many contemporary romance books but this book I read in one sitting!! I highly recommend reading this series (especially if you like Paper Princess or Anna And The French Kiss).

Josephine is a down to Earth girl who lives on a farm in Texas whose life will forever be changed by the aftermath of her high school reunion.

Matthew appears to be a an incredibly pompous rich boy from a wealthy Italian family. Will meeting Josephine give him some perspective?

Natalia is a dream, while Laila is the devil!

This was a fun summer read. From the get go I instantly loved Josephine and her ability to take no shit from women bullies. She is very confident in her sense of self, which I love! And I love her instant bond she formed with Natalia, what a wonderful character she is!

The Matthew relationship is still a question for me.  While the end of the story showed major growth for his character, he was very dull and quite an a** for most of the story. I have high hopes for his character though after reading the last 20% of this story.

Overall I have been keeping this book in the back of my mind and I am ao ready to find out what happens next!

I received this ARC from this author for my honest review

I had a bit of hard time to get to this debut novel knowing that is very clean and by that I mean there is no 🔥🔥🔥. But as I started reading it I got completely consumed by it and I really enjoyed it all the way to the end. And now I am really eager to find out more and see how the story goes all the way to the end.

Matthew and Jo both get scammed by a con and ended up in a sham marriage. Jo wants to save her ranch in Texas and Matthew wants to save his business and reputation in Rome. After a year of their fake marriage is done they will both go to live their normal life. But will their one year of marriage e as smooth and convincing as they planned or will they have to many obstacles and have up before the end of the arrangement?

This is an easy, light hearted and beautiful read ♥️♥️♥️

Thank you to the author for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Two people. One night. What could happen between a shy woman and a mysterious man in a night?
This book is more than a contemporary romance novel. This book talks about many topics: university, life, friendship, bullying, harassment, family, home.
The author writes so fluently that the characters feel so real— i loved that! It's difficult to achieve this, and this author has done it. It's one of my favorites things about this novel.
The plot is exciting and intense! I've loved how the author wrote it.
Another favorite thing that I've read was reading how the main character, Josephine, did her evolution for better. At first, she was a shy, quiet girl that loved her home and didn't want to go anywhere far away from it. She was tormented in high school by some bullies, which left a mark on her. Bullying is something that needs to be talked more about. There is a scene in the book in which Matthew says to her that maybe some people change, that they're not still the mean guys they were in high school. She replies by asking if they do truly change.
It has really funny scenes. And the plot twists —some are expected—, some of them, are so unexpected that I've loved it.
It's a captivating, emotional fictional book full of romance and social issues for adults.
I highly recommend it. It is set, almost all the book, in Rome, which is so interesting and the descriptions are beautiful! The author tells interesting facts and habits for tourists to do in Rome. I liked it a lot!
This book comes out on 22nd June, so stay tuned!

I signed up for an ARC of this book even though it is not my usual genre. I was curious and my curiosity was satisfied. The book follows Josephine Arquette, a quiet introvert who has always been an 'invisible girl'. She has no direction in life and is just happy to live at Tessa (her family ranch) and pass the days away. That all changes the night of her high school reunion, where one very out of character action leads her on an adventure of a lifetime with Matthew Devaro, handsome, cold, distant, cut-throat billionaire.

I really enjoyed the book. The characters were well developed. Jo and Matthew are polar opposites but you can tell right from the start that they balance each other well. For me Jo stole the show cause it was absolutely lovely to see her growth as the pages progressed. From shy and invisible she finds her voice and strength and it had nothing to do with Matthew. Which was refreshing. Most books of this genre tends to make it seem as though the lead female grows cause of the man but this didn't do that and I loved it. I love the angst, the slow burn romance and I love the descriptions of Rome. Natalia is another favourite character who I absolutely loved, she's fiesty, protective and a sweetheart. Just the kind of side-character you need in a book to support and guide the main characters.

I am rating this a 4 and rated it 3.5 on my bookstagram simply cause of the writing. I felt some of the writing was long-winded and unnecessary. Like right at the beginning, the specificity of Jo's days at the ranch as well as her family's could have been excluded without taking anything away from the story. I also did not like the inclusion of the narrator bits in the middle to show that it was a different point of view. Again it was not necessary. You could easily just switch to those POVs without mentioning narrator.

But all in all, it is a book that pulls you in and you feel all the emotions that the characters do. I enjoyed reading it, read it in one sitting and am absolutely dying to know what happens next! Pick it up and give it try! You won't be disappointed!

Tricked (book #1) by R.M.T. Jay

ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

::: SPOILER-FREE REVIEW :::

Rating: 4 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Book coming: June 22nd

Story follows Jo, a young girl trying to figure out her future. She meets Matthew, a very wealthy and good looking man. Because of an unexpected twist of fate their lives became bound together in a way they have never imagined!!

It's official I'm a fan of R.M.T. now. This book was more than great. It was fabulous. This woman crawled inside my mind and created a story that seriously felt custom written for me?

Angst? Check!
Hot alphahole hero? Holy hell, CHECK!
A heroine that's the perfect blend of sweet but with a steel backbone? Check!
An enemies to lovers story that left me practically salivating? CHECK!
A sexual chemistry and a burn so good it makes you want to slap them both? CHECK!
An addicting, obsessive read from cover to cover? ABSOLUTELY FREAKING CHECK!!!

I honestly think Tricked is the kind of book anyone would enjoy – wonderfully written in a very entertaining way, griping from the very beginning and perfect if you love enemies to lovers stories.

I’ve read many books with this trope, so trust me when I say R.M.T. Jay's debut novel was a great one. It was fun, entertaining and so refreshing. Needless to say, I devoured this little book from start to finish.

If you are looking for an angsty, love to hate story with an engaging story-line and two fantastically portrayed characters, then you must try this one.

“… I would normally just run for cover in tears or stay silent and take it, but then something clicked, a quiet realization: I'm not ready for all the crap that happened in high school to spill out into my real world. I don't want to get trampled on and insulted anymore. This isn't ok, It's never been ok, and I don't have to take it. I don't want to be a pushover and good ol’ invisible girl forever. And I certainly don't want to be treated like this for a minute longer.” (p.20)

When Josephine met Matthew that night, she did not expect him to change after they arrived in Italy. She only had Natalia for a sister and Pierro to accept her, while Helena and Laila despised her. Thanks to Casper Love they were stuck together for a year, but what would happen during that time? When everything was impermanent, would the fragile feelings remain the same? Only time could tell.

If you are ambitiously seeking a cozy, evening novel which is tantalizingly saucy to enjoy over a hot chocolate, then Jay's Tricked will add a tinge of edginess to your receptive imagination. It is deliciously salivating with Italian cuisine and cultural interactions, celebrity and elite sideline romances, and stylish, yet frivolous journalistic antics; but more on a serious note, bullying and self-respect with a twist of humor and self-discovery.

I was one of the lucky people who got to read an ARC for this book! Being the first book in the series, I think it sets everything up perfectly. It's such an enjoyable slow burn that I am already antsy to get my hands on the second book!

I love the author's writing style! Most of the book is in first person, but sometimes there are moments where it is a narrator explaining what is going on. This is such a cool narration style and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

The pacing is really nice. I love how the relationships actually develop instead of forming instantly. All of the emotional punches his amazingly. Jo is so much stronger than me because I would have cried so many times.

Overall, this quickly became one of my top books, and I absolutely can not wait to read more from the series!

A rather short story that held my interest throughout.

Josephine and Matthew are polar opposites. But a chance trick forces them to be together.

I enjoyed Josephine because though young she was feisty. She grew as a person in this story. Now Matthew made me want to throttle him. He was so arrogant and just an ass. Though will say he started to be redeemable towards the end.

The story will continue in the next books and I look forward to see how it unfolds. Should prove very interesting.

Thrilling read, I couldn't put it down!
I highly recommend this book for an exciting, easy read. The characters are interesting and the well written story allows you to go on the journey with them as they evolve. There are moments of frustration, disbelief, triumph and heart. Can't wait for the next book!

dnf - stopped after 50%

going into this book, i wanted to like it. i was a little skeptical about the whole relationship taking place over three books (taking slow burn to a new level), and i’m sadden to say i’m not a fan.

starting off with the plot, i do feel like it has the potential to be great. i mean, being tricked into a marriage? then it turning into a marriage of convince? yeah that could be SO good — but i don’t think this author did it well, at all. although the main character, Josephine, gets five million dollars out the deal, i don’t think she was truly benefitted in any other way. and not to mention that she had to deal with her Matthew (we’ll get to that in a minute). i will say that i liked the setting of the book, which is Italy. although whenever i hear of a book taking place in Italy, i think of Mafia books, this was a nice change in pace. i also did like how we got to experience Italy through the eyes of Josephine.

moving onto the characters — they are the main issues i had with this book. starting with Josephine, i kinda felt like she was a pick-me girl? throughout the book, we’re constantly reminded about how she “doesn’t dress up” “hates makeup” “prefers the simple life”… which i completely understand. however, she took it to a new extreme of complaining. i also didn’t like her stupid little saying. she doesn’t curse, so instead she says the stupidest shit like “plundering potatoes”. like what? i will say that i like that she isn’t afraid to speak her mind, and stands up to Matthew and his family. that’s about the only quality i liked about her. now onto Matthew, i. hated. him. first, he was so cold — it’s not even funny. i get being a “grumpy male character” but he just took it to a new level. also, he is downright disrespectful towards Josephine. like the poor girl is doing you a favor and you treat her like this? all he cares about is his washed up, selfish girlfriend, Lalia, and his company. i normally like the whole “grumpy billionaire” trope, but this one was just completely unlikable for me (sorry not sorry). moving onto Matthew’s family, hated them. Natalie was the only good one out of the whole family. Matthew’s parents were assholes to Josephine and you could SO TELL she was just a tool to them. as for Natalie, i appreciate her niceness towards Josephine — and i think she helped out a lot. onto Josephine’s family… eh. they did nothing for me. i thought her older sister, Madi, was annoying as hell. but i liked the Grandfather and Tommy. and finally, Matthew’s wacked out girlfriend, Lalia. this girl was so fucking mean i wanted to smack her with a bat.

now, the writing style. first off, there were times that i saw the author using text abbreviations? what? it’s suppose to be a proper book, not a wattpad written book. also, i hated how the author felt the need to use all caps when showing that the characters were yelling. like, just say “*blank* yelled”. the need for the caps was not necessary. it was annoying beyond belief. i also felt like while reading, many important conversations were skipped over or shortened. it was annoying to read.

overall, this book has the potential to be great. however, i think it needs to be rewritten better and it also needs to be sped up more.
