COVID-19 GUIDELINES FOR EVENT: The pandemic has disrupted every aspect of daily life. We understand many are hesitant to join in person events. The following details will be in place for our annual charity luncheon:

  • We have reduced the number of attendees to this year in order to safely distance tables.
  • We will have temperature checks when you arrive.
  • Requirements for attendance: Mask and negative COVID-19 test or proof of vaccination.
  • The San Antonio Colonnade Hotel will prepare a hot "To-Go" lunch for each participant to take following our keynote speaker (Garden salad, roasted chicken with charred tomatillo salsa, marbled potatoes with peppers and onions, vegetables, and chocolate cake.)

The San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness (SACADA) is honored to have Becky Savage as our keynote speaker for our 2021 Red Ribbon Luncheon to be held on Friday, October 29, at the Omni Hotel at the Colonnade. Becky has been on a mission to talk to students and adults about the hazards of opioid misuse - despite her unbelievable agony. For her, it is a personal issue - on June 14, 2015 she lost two sons to overdoses of alcohol and hydrocodone. She says her boys, Nick (19) and Jack (18) loved playing hockey and late-night hangouts.

The co-founder of the 525 Foundation (named for her sons team hockey numbers), she is very active in furthering overdose awareness and prevention strategies. She is involved with opioid task forces, state initiatives or prevention, and community take-back events. She continues her advocacy because she believes her story can make a bigger impact than mere lectures and statistics.

Our emcee will be Dave Rios, former KONO 101.1 radio host. SACADA will also be honoring this year's Allan K. DuBois Community Champion Award recipient Sara E. Dysart for her more than two decades of promoting SACADA's work in prevention, intervention, and recovery support services for children and adults. Sara has served on our Board of Directors, Executive Board, and now serves as the Chair of SACADA's Advisory Board.

We hope you can join us this year for this special event to benefit SACADA's programs for our community.
