Tokidoki, Nemurenai Yoru ni by Yōichirō to get short film in early 2020

Voice actress, singer, and manga artist Sora Tokui will be debuting as a director on a short movie based on the Sora Tokui Prize winner Tokidoki, Nemurenai Yoru ni (Sometimes, On Those Sleepless Nights) by Yōichirō. The visual adaptation is scheduled for an early 2020 release. The theme of the story is "A female teen who cannot sleep on the night before the decisive battle."

Tokui personally selected the winning story from a pool of submissions from the monogatary.com short story contest 2019. She commented: "I was really surprised that it's told through the father's point of view! I love the depiction of the father-child relationship and the sound of baseball on TV."

On top of the short movie, the winning short story will receive a comic adaptation, an audio book, and a music video, among other forms of adaptation. The online contest was held between July and September. Aspiring authors have 90 days to write a story based on prompts provided by the contest organizers. The contest first started in 2018.

Tokui was a member of the Milky Holmes idol group with Suzuko Mimori, Izumi Kitta, and Mikoi Sasaki, although the group broke up in February. Her anime voice roles include Tantei Opera Milky Holmes' Nero, Love Live! School idol project's Nico, and BanG Dream!'s Hinako.
