Senior Officer-Business Development

Senior Officer-Business Development is responsible to manage day to day coaching, capacity development and monitoring activities. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to stakeholder engagement, monitoring of activity process and impact, and supervision of data enumerators. The SOBD will be supported by Dhaka based staff with tools and methodologies to support in decision making and course corrections for greater activity effectiveness. The SOBD oversees the quality of project implementation activities conducted by Project implementation staff. SOBD will be responsible for stakeholder engagement at the Upazilla level and District level and will supervise market facilitators and Field Facilitator for coaching and data collection. The SOBD will produce periodic reports along with knowledge management activities.

Field Team Leader

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Senior Officer-Business Development include but are not limited to the descriptions below.


Design and Planning
  • Function as Senior Officer-Business Development to support implementation of all project activities within an assigned district, under the supervision of the Field Team Leader
  • Regularly follow up with all stakeholders for whom the SOBD is a primary point of contact (PCO) for rapport building and market strengthening
  • Function as the point of contact for inclusion and resilience within the district for the project
  • Develop a details implementation plan and lead to implement

Advocacy

  • Function as the key point of contact on advocacy related initiatives conducted with DPHE, LGED, NGOs and other relevant civil society engagements
  • Advocate for provision of smart subsidies, improved products and supply chain strengthening with key stakeholders
  • Assess, strategize, coach and support the private public development platforms bringing together relevant stakeholders and partners for better sector coordination and the development of guidelines and relevant standards at both Upazilla and District level

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning

  • Support all project staff to monitor and gather evidence regarding ongoing event implementation, sales tracking, and activity progress
  • Extend support for maintaining and reviewing monitoring databases with brief analysis

  • Conduct spot checks and support in data collection quarterly through process monitoring in order to ensure quality of Project data in collaboration with the E&A Team members and Field Team Leader
  • Supervise assessments/survey as per project requirements
  • Complete quarterly research projects in collaboration with the E&A unit
  • Compile and submit one case study per month
  • Participate in the development of hub specific assessment plans (e.g. monitoring, evaluation data collection, spot visits and analysis tools and guidelines) specific to relevant field staff and external consultants
  • Actively engage in initiating best practices, key learnings, unique cases and other relevant documentation to share with the wider team

Coordination and Support

  • Based on guidance from the Program Manager and Field Team Leader, support cross-program activities
  • including:
    • Product innovation
    • Technology commercialization
    • Best practices documentation
    • Cross-project learning activities
    • Innovation and Quality Management (iQ)
  • Maintain close contact and communication for project planning, strategy formulation and other issues with supervisor, technical specialists and institutional support teams
  • Harmonize approach with other Senior Officer-Business Development in the program through best practice sharing
  • and feedback loops

Other Responsibilities

  • Actively follow and engage with Global WASH initiatives in other countries and other Bangladesh programs for stronger network connections
  • Actively learn and develop skills related to online platforms used by iDE including but not limited to: Salesforce, Smartsheets, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets
  • Maintain use of online platforms for sharing reports, documents and data
  • Represent iDE at external events and meetings as agreed with supervisor
  • Participate in all relevant meetings and workshops
  • Undertake additional tasks subject to workload and skill sets such as photography, cross-project trainings and evaluations

Skills and Experience:

A successful Senior Officer-Business Development will have the following skills and experience and will be comfortable with the following conditions.

Education
At least Bachelor in any subject from a reputed University; Business Administration/ Economics /Development Studies is preferable
Work Experience
  • At least 5 years of experience working on market system development in sanitation or another relevant field
  • Familiarity and experience with project management concepts such as Logical
  • Frameworks, Impact Logic or Results Chains
  • Considerable understanding and knowledge of rural markets, trading relationships and rural service provision
  • Experience of value chain approaches, market development and deep dive research
Personal Skills
  • Ability to successfully supervise a limited number of staff
  • Ability to plan and implement iterative field level activities for market systems change (looking beyond the DIP)
  • Understands the facilitative role and local market development approach
  • Good communication, presentation and negotiation skills
Physical and Language Skills
  • Ability to travel and undertake fieldwork in rural contexts
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to convey messages through clear and concise writing.
  • Adept writing and documentation skills in both Bangla and English
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail and the internet
  • Familiarity with internet-based software systems such as Google App
