St. Petersburg is surrounded by more than 5 thousand monuments, from the smallest (Chizhyk-Pyzhik – 11 cm) to the highest (Alexander Column – 47.5 m) and the oldest (Sphinxes – more than 3.5 thousand years). Each of them has its own history, myths and legends, some of them are even very funny. And to get to know the most famous of them, you will need at least a week of daily walks around the city and the surrounding suburbs.

Architects – a sculptural group by Alexander Taratynov, installed in the Alexander Park in 2011. It is a composition of the figures of eight iconic architects for the city – Trezzini, Rossi, Montferrand, Thomas de Thomon, Rastrelli, Voronikhin, Bazhenov and Zakharov.

Bronze Horseman (monument to Peter the Great) is a monument to Peter I on Senate Square. Its opening took place on August 7 (18), 1782. The monument is made of bronze. The statue is now one of the symbols of Saint Petersburg.

Four griffins are located on the sides of the granite pier of Universitetskaya embankment on ​​the Neva River almost at the very water, opposite the building of the Academy of Arts.

Monument to Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov is a sculptural monument to the outstanding Russian composer, teacher, conductor, public figure, music critic, member of the Mighty Handful N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov. Monument to Peter I by Mihail Chemiakin is installed in the Peter and Paul Fortress in the Petrogradsky district of the city. It is a bronze statue designed and cast in the United States in the 1980s and donated by Chemiakin to the city.

Monument to the carriage (1st Sovetskaya street) – carriage of time. The monument is made of bronze and mounted on a two-stage pedestal. It is a cab carriage – a light open four-wheeled double carriage, mostly single-horse.

Monument to the horse-drawn carriage on Vasilyevsky Island was erected in 2004 near the Vasileostrovskaya metro station in the pedestrian area. The figure of the driver was made by the sculptor Penteshin. The coachman is shown leading the horses by the bridle.

Rostral columns are architectural structures in the center of St. Petersburg, on the Spit of Vasilyevsky Island. In the 19th century, they served as lanterns for the port of the capital. Two rostral columns were erected in 1805-1810 according to the design of the French architect Thomas de Thomon, who decorated them with the rostra of ships on both sides of Vasilyevsky Island.

Sphinxes on Universitetskaya embankment, 17, are sculptures of zoomorphic mythical creatures (sphinxes) located on Vasilyevsky Island, St. Petersburg. They were created in the 14th century BC. e. during the reign of the 18th dynasty pharaoh Amenhotep III. This period was marked by the flourishing of ancient Egyptian art and the sphinxes are a significant monument of this era.

St. Petersburg in miniature. On June 15, 2011, Gazprom’s Mini-City street miniature park in Russia was opened on the territory of Alexander Park with 1:33 copies of the main historical and architectural landmarks cast in bronze.
