In Bangladesh, GIZ is implementing the technical cooperation projects in the areas of energy, climate change, textile, human rights under the bilateral agreement, signed on 15 July 1972 between the Bangladesh and German Governments.

GIZ Bangladesh now invites applications for the position Financial Assistant for the ‘Textile, Garment and Leather’ Cluster.

A. Responsibilities

The position holder is responsible for:

  • Inflow and outflow of money from the bank and cash
  • Assist to monthly EOP
  • Daily invoice processing and payment.
  • Keeping track of short terms advances i.e. travel advance, procurement advance
  • Timely recording of each transaction in Cash book
  • Closing the cash desk at appropriate time every day with proper signatures
  • Effective coordination with colleagues of the accounting department, and
  • Ensuring that provided services in the section are done according to GIZ Financial Guidelines.

In this context, the position holder fulfils the following tasks:

B. Tasks

 Cash Handling

  • Operates petty cash including maintaining the cash book, monitor the daily cash flow record and the level of liquidity
  • Payment of invoices after taking appropriate signatures
  • Cash count protocol management and daily cash count
  • Accountable for money in and outflows from the respective bank and performs monthly bank reconciliations and EOP
  • Follows-up and reports on the state of cash money
  • Comply with organization SOP

Financial Administration & Internal Control

  • Assisting the Accounts Professional in following up unsettled advances, receivables and payables
  • Drawing up the annual internal control schedule (as per relevant checklists) and reports
  • Coping VAT voucher and prepare tracking of VAT deduction
  • Supporting financial monitoring of the projects (e.g. monthly cost and expenditure reports)
  • Following up the IC observations with projects against set/agreed timeline
  • Archiving/labelling and management of C file vouchers in line with GIZ OuR
  • Send and tracking vouchers and financial documents to CO/HQ/Partners

C. Other Duties/Additional Tasks

  • Assists in and/or carry out other project activities and any other tasks as assigned
  • Reports all problems related to accounting, financial administration and/or compliance without delay
  • Participates in project and finance team meetings to understand their needs to be able to provide support
  • Cross-checks the fee schedule for (national) individual appraisers/firms in accordance with updated remuneration grid
  • Preparation and follow protocol of sending file to GIZ-HQ

D. Required qualifications, competences and experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Accounting

Professional experience

  • Minimum 1 (one) year professional experience in a similar position.

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • In-depth knowledge and practical experiences with accounting software (e.g. Winpaccs, Spreadsheet)
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
  • Excellent understanding of accounting and financial operations (bills and voucher checking, payment processing, planning)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluency in Bengali and English (written and spoken) is essential
  • Ability to work in an intercultural environment
