Krestovsky Island in St. Petersburg

Krestovsky Island (Finnish: Ristisaari) is an island in St. Petersburg, located in the western part of the city, on the territory of the Petrograd administrative district in the Neva delta, in the historical area called Ostrova (Islands). The area of the island is 4.2 km². Former names of the island: Khristoforovsky Island (1741), St. Natalia Island (1717).

More than half of the island’s area is occupied by the Primorsky Victory Park. There are two metro stations on the island – Krestovsky Ostrov and Zenit.

Krestovsky Island is bounded by the Neva river (Srednyaya Nevka River from the north, the Malaya Nevka River from the south, and the Krestovka River from the northeast). The western coast of the island overlooks the Gulf of Finland. A system of bridges connects Krestovsky Island with Petrogradsky, Petrovsky, Elagin and Kamenny Islands.

The Western High-Speed Diameter connects Krestovsky with Vasilyevsky District (Island).

It was built in 1846-1847 according to the design of the architect A. I. Shtakenshneider, destroyed during the Great Patriotic War as a result of an air bomb hit, recreated in 2004-2006 by the Peterburgrekonstruktsiya company.
