Leicester's first state funded Hindu school will open on Spencefield Lane in Evington this September.

Krishna-Avanti Primary School , the second Hindu faith school in the country, is scheduled to open on the site of the former Leicester Grammar Junior School.

The I-Foundation, the educational charity behind the school, has started refurbishing the building to provide state-of-the-art facilities.

Although the school has been modelled on Britain's first Hindu primary in north London, it will become the UK's first cross-community Hindu school.

The new Leicester school will provide a Hindu ethos but half of the school's intake will be admitted regardless of their faith background.

BBC Leicester's Geoff Maskell spoke to the project director, Pradip Gajjar, who believes the school is in a great location.
