Bylaw Amendments

It is not too late for member proposals!

Each year CFUW members can propose bylaw amendments or other motions for consideration at the AGM or policy sessions. This year, proposals must be received by CFUW by March 30th in order to be considered at the AGM, July 7-9, 2023.

What are member proposals?

Motions of any kind. We usually think of motions discussed at a general meeting as being limited to Resolutions (in CFUW this means motions to establish advocacy policy) and Bylaw amendments. But Members (CFUW Clubs) can submit motions on a variety of topics. As long as they propose action that is within the purposes of CFUW or that addresses how CFUW conducts business (bylaw amendments, amendments to procedure, resolutions, dues motions, nominations*) member proposals can be considered at the AGM or a policy session.

Timeline for Member Proposals and Articles & Bylaws Process for AGM 2023:

March 30, 2023 Deadline to Submit Member Proposed Bylaw Amendments and Member proposals. Forward all motions to CFUW Executive Director at execdir@cfuw-fcfdu.ca and Articles and Bylaws Chair Fiorenza Albert-Howard fiorenza@shaw.ca.

International Development Week

February 5-11th, 2023

Please join us for a virtual screening of the acclaimed 2019 film ‘Woman’ to celebrate International Development Week!

About Woman

“Woman, co-directed by Ukrainian-born director and journalist Anastasia Mikova and French photographer and environmentalist Yann Arthus-Bertrand, is a magnificent, touching documentary that is both funny and sad. Woman has a rather simple premise: women from around the world and from all walks of life talk about what, for them, it means to be a woman.

The documentary is part of Woman, a worldwide project giving a voice to 2,000 females across 50 different countries. The women talk straight to the camera and in first person. The stories are broken up and grouped into loose topics that deal with so many facets of human existence: motherhood, relationships, birth, death, rape, war, love, marriage, education, financial independence, kindness and joy.” Description by Kaleem Aftab

The film will be available for up to 100 views from CFUW members from February 5th to 7th, at your chosen time and location. Watch with your club, friends, or on your own!

Report on UWCW’s December 6th Event: National Day of Rememberance and Action on Violence against Women

“On December 6th, The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, UWCW welcomed Dr. Jane Ursel, retired professor of Sociology at the University of Manitoba and founding director of RESOLVE, a tri-provincial research network with offices at the Universities of Manitoba, Regina and Calgary. Among her many accomplishments, she initiated and maintained a 28=year longitudinal study of the First Family Violence Court, established in Winnipeg in 1990.
