SF Sketchfest presents a pairing from a dozen hand-picked stand-up comedians on the rise: names you might not know now, but will be hearing a lot from soon. With Shalewa Sharpe and Leah Rudick, Hosted by Clara Nadira Bijl.

Shalewa Sharpe tells jokes. She developed her sly yet goofy style in Atlanta, where she was raised. Currently based in Brooklyn, she has joked on so many shows, festivals, and podcasts that in 2017 Time Out NY labeled her a “local fixture.” She has joked on HBO’s “2 Dope Queens” and Comedy Central’s “The New Negroes.” She got serious while playing the role of Yvonne in John Cameron Mitchell's musical podcast Anthem: Homunculus, but then she went right back to joking in her solo show, “Don’t Reach In The Bag.” She has two albums of jokes: “Stay Eating Cookies” (2016) and “So You Just Out Here?” (2019). She posts jokes on Twitter (@silkyjumbo) and questionable self-portraits on Instagram (@silkyjumbo).

Clara Bijl is an internationally unknown stand-up comedian and writer. Clara grew up in the French Alps and learned English by listening to rap music before attending college in South Carolina, as one does when coming from France. Upon graduation, she moved to New York City to become a stand-up comedian. She thought her English was serviceable until someone asked her if she was deaf. That's when she decided to study with a speech therapist. Clara has since performed stand-up comedy without an accent around the world. She has two successful runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival under her belt, as well as a comedy album, "Internationally Unknown." She wrote for a Swiss TV show, "Le Petit Silvant Illustré" (yes they have comedy in Switzerland, so long as its neutral). She's punched up scripts and even wrote and directed a pilot entitled "The Refugees." She also has a YouTube show, "My Review of Your Yelp Review." Clara's latest screenplay, "For Better or For Worse," has gotten into 12 festivals thus far. Clara only engages in activities that might inspire funny material: the volunteering, the kids, the marriage, the raising of French cats in America. It's all for comedy.
