Digital Skills and Support Coach 


Hours: 21 hours per week

We are looking for a part-time Digital Skills and Support Coach to join our enthusiastic and well-respected team. 
Resourced through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the successful candidate will work closely with the VAEF Community Response Hub Manager, Epping Forest District Council and other key stakeholder partners to develop and implement a service that strategically seeks to reduce digital inequalities across the Epping Forest district. 

VAEF provides advice, information and development support to voluntary and community organisations and volunteers in Epping Forest district and beyond. 
It runs a range of projects that support vulnerable people including befriending, handyman, benefits guidance and support for those with learning disabilities. 

The successful candidate will be working across a variety of community locality settings in the Epping Forest district to deliver public-facing digital support and skills workshops and help recruit, train and support volunteer digital community champions. 

Key responsibilities include: 

* Providing regular, advertised digital support drop-in surgeries in Epping Forest to support residents facing personal digital barriers
* Providing 1-2-1 home visit digital support to referred residents, where personal digital barriers require home visit support. 
* Promoting and administering a digital data and digital device gifting service that supports excluded residents. 
* Recruiting, training and supporting digital project volunteers and local ‘Digital Champions’ to assist in providing digital support in the community
* Providing a regular programme of digital employment skills workshops for benefits claimants who are looking to get back into work
* Providing a regular programme of digital skills workshops in the community, supporting persons seeking to improve their knowledge and confidence, around themes including using email, online banking, online purchasing, online safety and desktop publishing software. 

The skills and experience we are looking for: 

* Excellent personal digital skills and knowledge of a range of devices, software and operating systems
* Excellent communication skills, with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities
* Experience of working in the charity sector is desirable
* Experience in managing volunteers is desirable

Other skills needed include: 

* Good organisational and time management skills coupled with a high level of attention to detail
* Excellent communication skills with an ability to impart information clearly.

Our board is a diverse group of like-minded people who oversee and develop our much-needed service. 
As a trustee you will directly contribute to the direction of the charity and ensure we are able to continue helping people.
You will read papers and attend four in-person board meetings per year in Epping plus an annual strategy meeting. 
You will also work remotely on sub-committees and specific projects with other trustees or the small number of dedicated paid staff and complete mandatory online training. 
As Chair, there would be some additional responsibilities.
Experience of service delivery to those in need would be great, or maybe you have been a service user yourself. HR and people operation experience would be particularly useful. But whatever you have to contribute, we would love to hear from you.
