This is incredible progress towards realizing our longer term vision for Bohubrihi, which is to amplify the voice of world-class Bangladeshi operators, who have the skills and local industry experience to help teach a wider audience using best-in-class digital tools. Uber was never just data driven. They were data-obsessed. There's a huge difference. I'll explain below. The term data-driven is a commodity now. Everyone says it but few often are data-driven. It took me a few roles once I left Uber to realize why Uber was different. Data was in their DNA. It was amazing to see. Here are a few examples: - Every operations person I worked with knew SQL (really well) - They had the most amazing tool to access data called "QueryBuilder". It democratized data in a way I've never seen. - They invested heavily in data engineers and automation Their Martech/Adtech team which I worked with for years is best in class - Every GM knew their business by heart and could recite their numbers. - One of the most well-attended meetings was the S&P monthly where they would share key data insights that impacted the whole business - Conversations and discussions would only start AFTER there was data to look at - Everyone was data-thirsty regardless of role. This was a function of their hiring process where they tested your ability to leverage and action on data Uber had embedded data everywhere. It was a game changer. If you're looking to change your org, it starts with the culture. Your people and processes have to scream data-obsessed. Why Data Science aspirants are not finding Data Science Jobs. Over the last 5-6 yrs, I have interviewed many data science aspirants. One trend that I have noticed in all these years is that the resumes of data science aspirants are increasingly filled with NLP and CV projects while there is no mention of any statistical or classic machine learning words !! I know, you might be wondering how this has got anything to do with data science aspirants not finding data science jobs. Let me point out two reasons. 1. The adoption of Data Science / AI in various domains is still at a nascent stage (especially NLP and CV). 2. Most companies have tabular data. Now the above two points are crucial. Data Science aspirants have been told that NLP and CV are the future. Sure, I don't deny that. I am long on NLP too (but not on CV). But you see the adoption of NLP and CV is still very nascent. Also the nature of NLP and CV is such that, once the science is formalized and established, then it just becomes a scaling game. Take example of chatgpt, the science/mathematics behind chatgpt is already cracked. Now the game is that of scaling (65 bllion parameters or 100 billion parameters etc). Such being the case, not many data scientists would be required. So my suggestion to data science aspirants would be to pick up data science skill sets like good know-how of Linear Models, GLMs, GAMs, Design of experiments and classic ML algorithms. Because these can be applied to tabular data. Many companies have tabular data but don't know what to do with it. We at Aryma Labs consult for various companies and have felt this need up close.
