How Building the Future Really Works: From Information Technologies and Space Technologies to Power Production and Electromobility—What Society Needs to Take the Next Leap Forward Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 215 ratings

"How Building the Future Really Works" discusses how the present generations need to drive the development and implementation of the technologies of the future, such as the implementation of electric and autonomous vehicle systems.

There are laws of nature in business and technology development – almost as immutable as the laws of physics. They have never before been summarized in an accessible way in one book. You can learn them by spending your life studying the history of technology and economic development and putting the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle together, one by one. Or you can read this book and jump-start your journey toward an understanding of how we as individuals, our companies, and countries need to build the future.

First of all, we need to admit that we do not know exactly how to build the future – then we need to start building it.

Mats Larsson has spent the past 18 years exploring the amount of resources needed for the changes to electromobility and other technologies and systems of the future to succeed. He has since 2009 written 6 internationally published books on these subjects.

The book "How Building the Future Really Works" by Mats Larsson offers a compelling perspective on the challenges and opportunities associated with the large-scale conversion of transportation systems to electromobility. Larsson argues that such a transformation requires substantial government financing and systematic management, challenging hyper-think or overly optimistic but unfounded beliefs.

Larsson skillfully supports his points with historical and contemporary examples, making a strong case against conservative market-driven doctrine that limits the government's role in significant economic transformations. The author's writing is clear and easy to understand, making complex topics accessible to a wide audience.

For those intrigued by the future and its technological aspects, this book provides valuable insights into the commitment needed from governments, society, and individuals to shape it. The inclusion of a section on sustainability adds depth to the discussion, emphasizing its importance in building a sustainable future.

The book's relevance extends to young professionals seeking to understand the evolving economic landscape and identify opportunities for impact and success. It serves as a roadmap for developing skills and navigating future opportunities, offering a synopsis of the major technical challenges facing society in the coming decades.

A key takeaway from the book is the pivotal role of government and corporate investment in driving technological advancements. The author effectively illustrates how laissez-faire approaches fall short in fostering groundbreaking innovation, drawing on historical examples to emphasize the long-term impacts of past investments on our current economic landscape.

The book's exploration of the need for significant breakthroughs, rather than incremental improvements, to fuel economic growth and societal development is thought-provoking. The discussion on how young people may understand climate change but might not grasp the complexities of large-scale technological development adds depth to the narrative.

In conclusion, "How Building the Future Really Works" is an essential read for anyone interested in the intricate relationship between technology, government policies, economic growth, and the future of society. It provides a well-researched, clear, and engaging perspective on why ambitious investments in new technologies are crucial for our collective future.

I don't say this lightly: this is one of the most compelling book I've read about future trends. It reminds me a bit of the Megatrends series of books by John Naisbitt. This book seems to me to be more specific and far more compelling. It's a mix of general warnings and specific concerns. In a nutshell, we have governments making decrees that we are not to create more gasoline-powered cars by 2035 and yet there are no plans for the brave new world of an electric car world. We have electric cars, a relatively small number at this point, and no plans in place to truly make this the new standard: no plans for an electric network of roads. And, believe it not, Elon Musk can't single-handedly fix this.

The author makes clear that governments are suffering from hyperthink, a grandiose way of thinking with no follow through on how to make these idealistic plans a reality. The author, Mats Larsson, lays out what the practical and realistic solution will have to be: governments will need to wake up to the reality that it will take government leadership and support to make the hard choices to develop our future at the scale required for our future needs.

This is a highly accessible book that everyone should read. This is a perfect example of how we must be aware of the past in order to not repeat the same mistakes that have been made throughout history.

This book is like a pep talk for the future. It's the kick that I needed to start thinking differently, embrace innovation fully, and get fired up about actively shaping a better tomorrow. The author breaks down these complex ideas into bite-sized pieces, making it feel like I'm having a coffee chat with a tech-savvy friend. It's like a cheat sheet for understanding the fundamental laws that drive our future. What's even more incredible is the humility it starts with. It reminds us that there's no one-size-fits-all blueprint for the future. But rather than being discouraging, it's empowering. It's like saying, 'Hey, we're all in this together, and we have the power to shape what's to come.' This book isn't just informative; it's a motivational boost. It's like a coach shouting, 'You've got this! Think differently, embrace innovation, and let's actively make the world a better place.'
So, if you're looking for a roadmap to navigate this rapidly changing world and the inspiration to make a positive impact, this is your go-to guide. It's not just a book; it's a call to action, a rallying cry for all of us to shape a brighter future.

This book offers a rare and invaluable resource for those navigating the complex landscape of business and technology development. In the world of commerce and innovation, there exist laws of nature as fundamental as the laws of physics, yet they have never been distilled into a single accessible volume until now.

Rather than spending a lifetime piecing together economic history, readers can embark on an accelerated journey of understanding by delving into this book. It serves as a compass for comprehending the essential principles that individuals, companies, and nations must grasp to shape the future effectively.

One of the book's core messages is the importance of acknowledging our inherent uncertainty about the future while actively participating in its construction. In a world marked by rapid change and unpredictability, this book equips readers with insights and knowledge to embark on the journey of building a brighter and more prosperous future.

If you're eager to gain a deeper understanding of how the forces of business and technology shape our world and want to play a part in building a better tomorrow, this book is a must-read. It's a valuable guide that empowers readers to navigate the complexities of innovation and development with confidence and purpose.

I have been asking these questions for years. Thank you, Larsson. It amazes me that people don't work out how much electricity their car will use, but I hadn't ever considered how much electricity every car would use. This has really opened my eyes. I wondered why we weren't investigating hydrogen more, but now I understand it is an infrastructure issue. There is so much going on that we don't even know which questions to ask. I will be buying your next book. Thank you for filling me in especially on the questions I hadn't even considered asking. Everyone needs to read this book.
