Internship Experience

This past summer I interned at Walmart Home Office in Bentonville, AR. I worked in the Global Back Office Solutions (GBOS) division, on the Data Strategy and Governance team, specifically focusing on Integration Management. This was a great opportunity to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and exposed me to the broad scope of the Walmart Enterprise and culture.

My main project this summer was creating a Proof of Concept for the SAP Cross Database Comparison tool, proving potential savings of $600,000 per project and could be used organization wide. To complete my project I coordinated with cross-functional teams to acquire necessary resources for POC. This allowed me to gain more insight of different areas of the business, including Business Intelligence, User Experience, IT Audit, IT Security, Data Archiving and Database Management. For a another project, an intern and I analyzed benefits and created a decision tree diagram and slide deck for best practice of Agile and Waterfall project methodologies in an Enterprise environment. Finally, as a leverage intern, I collaborated with a team of eight interns to create an ‘Endless Aisle’ POC for internal Hack Day Project, where we came up with a solution to bridge the gap between digital and physical.

This summer was truly an unforgettable experience. Not only did I get to work for the Fortune 1 company, I was able to see how the largest retail company in the world works. I went to multiple speaker series, where Executives spoke about their experiences and how they got to where they are at. I also was able to experience Arkansas and all that it has to offer. This definitely was an eye opening experience.
