Public Health Epidemiologist

The Opportunity

The Public Health Epidemiologist will be responsible for leading design and implementation of public health programs (like community needs/situational assessments, rapid epidemiological studies, and outbreak investigations etc.) based on identified priorities in consultation with respective City Corporation Chief Health Officer/Designate and other decision makers (Mayor/Secretary/Ward Councilor) in the assigned City Corporation (CC) or MOHFW Authorities at the assigned District. S/he assist in capacity building of CC health team on public health concept and implementation of public health campaign activities in the respective CC and also will regularly participate in capacity building initiatives (formal training, mentoring/ coaching) taken by the project. The incumbent will maintain excellent working relationship with Chief Health Officer/ Designate and CC Health Team, MOHFW Authorities, and other relevant stakeholders through regular meetings and implementation of joint public health programs. S/he will also be responsible for managing public health program activity budget at CC/District level and prepare activity reports as necessary.

Qualifications and experience

  • Medical Graduate (MBBS) is required, preferably with Masters in Public Health (MPH)
  • At least 2 years’ experience in public health programming, preferably in urban context 
  • Experience in community based health programming and public health research works.
  • Demonstrated experience of capacity building for diverse group of people
  • Relationship building, influencing, negotiating and inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to analyse strategic trends and develop appropriate plans and responses to manage risks.
  • Written and spoken skills in English.
  • Candidate from the respective City Corporation/District will get preference.
