More about the Youth Commission
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Youth Commission aims to make young people part of the solution to tackling crime and improving policing, rather than being seen as part of the problem.

As a member of the Youth Commission you will support, challenge and inform the Police and Crime Commissioner. You will also make a difference to young people by working with others to deliver projects that tackle the police and crime issues that are of most concern to young people.

What will I do as part of the Youth Commission?
  • Share your views on policing and crime in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight with the Police and Crime Commissioner and their staff.
  • Go out to events, schools and other venues to ask other young people what they think.
  • Create and deliver campaigns and projects that tackle the top issues you have identified – this could be creating a workshop, a social media campaign or a one off event or anything else that you think will help get your message out there.
  • Report at the end of the year on what you have achieved and the recommendations you want to put to the Police and Crime Commissioner for the future.

What will I get from being a youth commissioner?
  • The ability to influence the future of policing and ensure the voices of young people are heard
  • Gain new skills and experience that will help with your CV or applications for college/university.
  • Meet and work with a variety of new people – including the Commissioner, Chief Constable and other professionals, and fellow Youth Commission members.
