Vorwort

Was still steht braucht man nicht mehr.

Gratulation!

Editorial

Dear dog handlers,

The WCH in Villejust is over, the daily life has begun again. We have processed our experiences and restarted our training. It was a WCH of openness and friendliness. Friendships have been renewed and new ones have been made. CSP France has outdone itself, also due to the help of helpers from their surroundings, from firebrigades nearby, the police, and where necessary, other NROs helped with their people. A cooperation for one goal!

A WCH is not only a test. A WCH is emotions, higher expectations on the team, luck with the weather, shows our different training levels and reasons for this work, be it mission or sport. Our environment is changing, our society as well. What stands still is not needed anymore. The IRO as well will have to change should it persist. It needs to develop and implement standards worldwide.

The success of emergency services and the military is based on clear standards and the will to fulfil their duty together. The „WE“ enables them to do incredible things and work across countries. No fire can be extinguished without the person carrying the hose. Noone can be rescued without the person who had trained the rescuer. Only the „WE“ can make successful! Nobody steps up a podium alone. Missing people are not found alone. These successes don’t belong to single persons. It is the success of those who have contributed to the result with their work, with the belief that they can make it. Without mission, there is no SAR dog sport, and through sports, there are strong candidates for mission. As experienced fireman, my heart and brains belong to rescue, my passion goes to sports. We all need to see each other as part of a “WE”, and put own interests behind in the benefit of the common success.

In the last years, I was able to meet many dog handlers from all over the world – all with the same heart, passion, and flag. We as dog handlers, we are the IRO – we have the duty to remember what we have committed to. We can reach our goals, we must, but it requires ALL of us. We – sports and mission – have a responsibility towards the victims.

We need to fulfil our duty together, as “WE”, following the most important motto in search and rescue: “Only doing nothing is wrong!” Let us step up and do it, as dog handlers, as NRO, as WE – the IRO!

WCH: Looking back & results

From 17th until 22nd of September 2019, the 25th IRO World Championship for Search and Rescue Dogs took place in Villejust/Paris (FR), organized by CSP France. 116 starters from 24 nations competed in the disciplines Tracking, Area search and Rubble search. The demanding tests took place on great worksites, among them the excellent rubble site of CSP France. Many visitors from Paris, France and even beyond the country took the opportunity to experience the work of search and rescue dogs live.

In a moving Closing Ceremony, also the leave of Marc Courtois, President of CSP France, was honored. Several honorary guests, among them the Austrian Ambassador for France Michael Linhart and José Buggenhout, President of the FCI SAR dog commission, visited the Closing Ceremony and were impressed by the performance of this year’s starters. Unfortunately, no Tracking champion could be chosen this year; this and the low number of starters give reason to rethink Tracking in the IRO and at the IRO WCH. In the course of the Closing Ceremony, also the „travelling trophy“ of IRO for the hosts of IRO World Championships was handed over by Marc Courtois to Liviu Ionescu, President Of CNEC (RO) who will host the WCH 2020.

We express our gratitude to the wonderful team of CSP France for organizing a great World Championship, to all starters and their fans, and to all visitors of this “anniversary” WCH!

Looking back: IRO MRT-Rubble

The IRO MRT Rubble 2019 took place from 16. - 20.10.2019 and was organized for the first time by the NRO CRDA in Zagreb (HR). 31 teams of 16 NGOs - including 5 teams that sought to renew their Mission Readiness in the Reclassification travelled from Denmark, France, Italy, Croatia, Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland and Hungary to Croatia. The very challenging worksites in Zagreb provided perfect prerequisites for the teams to prove their skills.
Congratulations! We are very happy that 15 teams are now allowed to call themselves "IRO MISSION READY RUBBLE 2019" and congratulate on the successful reclassification of Denis LAUS mit  T'Sheeva de l'Origine de Faucon Rouge, Tilen ŠKRABA with Dakota Spirit FlatXP (Ilvie), Claudio BÖTSCHI with Tschinni and Andrej ZUNIC with Blisk Juttas Point and the successful MRT results of Tomislav ZDENCAR with Mawlch Witch, Igor GORETA with Django, Diána PINKÓCZI with Elsamere Nasiir Kevlar, Viktória OROSZ with Never Never Land N'enter the Ninja, Beatrix BELÉNYI with Zen, Sarolta LECZKI with Karma, Matteo ROMANO with You Dinamite Ballacoilupi, Raffaele Luca TELESE with Arrakck´s Home Pepsi, Luca MIGLIAVACCA with Xavier, Anna Maria BELLENZIER with  Venere and Dejan OSOLNIK with Bolt Jutta`s Point
The organizing team of CRDA under the coordination of Vedran Babic did a great job. We would like to thank them, all participants for their efforts and work, the Classifiers and all helpers!

Welcome, Verena!

Int. IRO Testing Events

We would like to point out that only tests in the official IRO Annual plan may be called „International IRO Testing event“, and are the basis for the WCH qualification and allocation of sponsor money. Should you be unclear whether a test fulfils this requirement, please refer to the annual calendar here or contact the IRO Office

Please share me!

We would like to encourage all NROs to regularly forward the NRO Info to their respective members and dog handlers. The NRO Info is the official communication tool by IRO for its member NROs and we would like to spread our news and important information as much as possible to all members and dog handlers who are interested in the IRO’s work. Please help us share! Of course, you can also register additional subscribers here: Subscribe
