TITLE: RESEARCH ANALYST I/II
LOCATION: DHAKA, BANGLADESH
REPORTS TO: DR. PURNIMA MENON, SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW

Job Summary: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks to hire a Research Analyst for a full-time one-year, renewable appointment in the Poverty, Health, and Nutrition Division (PHND). The selected candidate will provide research support for the new OneCGIAR initiative, “Transforming Agri-Food Systems in South Asia” (TAFSSA). TAFSSA’s focus countries are Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan. The candidate will work with the team on Work Package 1 (facilitating agrifood systems transformation through inclusive learning platforms, public data systems, and partnerships) and Work Package 4 (tackling behavioral and structural determinants of sustainable healthy diets) of the TAFSSA initiative. The position will include analyzing large datasets in nutrition and health, assisting with designing surveys and managing data collection, and assisting in the preparation of reports and journal manuscripts.

The position will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh and is renewable based on performance and funding. The final grade level will be determined by level of education and years of relevant work experience.

Interested candidates must have work authorization to work in Bangladesh.

Essential Duties:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with leaders and initiative researchers on Work Package 1 (food systems data) or Work Package 4 (healthy diets and dietary determinants)
  • Analyzing large survey data sets on nutrition and health.
  • Designing survey instruments and protocols; program survey data collection; training survey supervisors and enumerators
  • Engaging in quantitative research to support policy efforts on food systems and nutrition in South Asia
  • Supporting quantitative data analysis and literature reviews, including policy and program reviews
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports and journal manuscripts
  • Supporting activities related to communications and knowledge mobilization
  • Coordinating with national and international partners and collaborators involved in the initiative
  • Supporting reporting for progress monitoring of activities

Required Qualifications:

  • Research Analyst I: Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Development Studies, or related field plus two years of relevant professional experience or Master’s degree in above mentioned fields.
  • At Research Analyst II: Master’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Development Studies, or related fields plus minimum three years of post-master’s relevant experience.
  • Prior experience with survey data (health and nutrition surveys, consumption surveys, and other large data sets) and/or administrative program data
  • Experience using statistical software packages, especially Stata.
  • Prior work experience with research organizations in South Asia
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Ability to work efficiently, independently, and pay close attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal skills, high energy, ability to multi-task and work well with people
  • Willingness and ability to travel across South Asia and internationally, including to rural areas to conduct fieldwork and supervise primary data collection

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with international and national researchers
  • Knowledge of major agriculture, nutrition, social protection, or livelihoods programs in South Asia.
  • Fluency in South Asian languages (especially Hindi, Bengali, Odiya, Nepali, Urdu, Punjabi)
