Terra Nova Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 52 ratings

Evangeline is living the life of a normal teenager—going to school and hanging out with friends—until mysterious, severe symptoms begin appearing. After passing out in the middle of a party, life as she knows it spirals beyond her grasp. She is then diagnosed with a rare, genetic blood disorder that causes her body’s white blood cells to kill the red ones. In the delirium of her deteriorating health, a door to a parallel world opens before her; however, once she steps through it, the portal closes, and she is unable to return to Earth.

The place Evangeline now finds herself in is called Terra Nova, a world wherein vampires rule supreme, with no traces of humanity left to speak of. Curious but afraid, she quickly learns that Terra Nova is not the shadow-side of Earth, but rather the tragic result of government experimentation. In order to survive, she must keep her mind open and accept the changes her body is undergoing; soon enough, those who she initially thinks are murderers become her trainers, whose help she must enlist if she ever hopes to return home—and soon enough, a romantic bond begins to bloom.

Meanwhile, Evangeline’s brother and friends back on Earth try to figure out what happened to her, and how the government is involved, and how to bring her home. Unbeknownst to any of them is the mysterious outcast Bambi, whose secrecy disguises her power in making a devastating choice: save one world at the risk of destroying the other.

About the Author

MTG has worked in numerous positions, mainly in managerial and executive roles. These include the editor-in-chief of a cultural magazine, an executive director, and most recently, the manager of a non-profit organization that works with immigrants and refugees. She has extensive experience working and studying abroad, including Germany, Italy, Korea, Abu Dhabi, and Pakistan; these experiences taught her about many cultures and worldviews, which influenced her writing.

Terra Nova, her first publication, is Book 1 of a series. The series' concept emerged when she, like the protagonist, was diagnosed with the blood disorder paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), and her then-boyfriend (now husband) joked she was becoming a vampire. She currently works and resides in Canada.

A very enjoyable read!

A very enjoyable read!
“Trust is not demanded. It is earned. I do not trust anyone who tells me to trust them.”You ever get tired of the same ‘ol same ‘ol of vampire stories? Thankfully, this one veers away from that path with the authors own spin on it. It’s also not your typical vampire book and that’s a huge sigh of relief. This book wasn’t what I was expecting at all — and I loved that!! I was a little hesitant when I heard about parallel universes as I’m very particular about that but MTG makes to work. I now have a new level of expectation.Overall, I found this book to be written well and found it to be a fast paced read. While it starts off somewhat slow it’s totally justifiable with world building and character development and picks up around thirteen-ish.. fourteen chapters in. It’s not overly done with romance but just enough to keep the reader engaged and wanting to know how it all plays out for the second book. There’s a good amount of banter which makes my little black heart happy. While this is a very human story, it does have its elements of the supernatural which balances it out to make it a very enjoyable read. I highly recommend for those who are looking for a different take of vampire fiction.

I really enjoyed this book. It pulls you in with great characters and storytelling. It's been a while since I've read a novel, but I really liked the world the author created and the different spin on the vampire world. Now I need to get the next book in the series since I can't wait to see what happens next.

I really, really enjoyed this fresh spin on a vampire fantasy story.

Evangeline just wants to be a normal teenager, do normal stuff. Not worry about the unbearably pains she gets that send her to the hospital. To stop drawing the creepy man from her nightmares. But she knows there's more to it, even if no one else believes her. She knows what she saw that night in the thunderstorm. She knows it's real.

One night at a party, Evangeline opens a door to Terra Nova, a land rules by starving, bloodthirsty vampires. Vampires that are desperately trying to protect Evangeline from falling to their same fate even as they lust for her blook. But why?

Back on Earth, her brother and friends are running out of time as they try to figure out how to bring Evangeline back. Will she make it back before she's changed?

I loved how the author took the reader into this stark vampire world - the result of an experiment gone horribly wrong; loved that idea! I could really picture and feel the emptiness of that world. Such a unique take on the genre and I was immediately sucked in. Cannot wait to dive into book 2!

Terra Nova recounts the mysterious story surrounding Evangeline`s life. Her genetic blood puts her in a strange world where she must fight to survive. The book is a metaphor to the tragic result of government experiment. If you are looking for mystery, betrayal, unexpected twists and romance this is definitely the right book

I really do enjoy a great paranormal/vampire story, and this one is definitely great. The writing is very strong and the storyline is even stronger. The book needs a touch of proofing, but the writing and story still shine. Well done! I’m looking forward to the next installment in the series.

I have to say this book is an excellent change in my book pile. My absolute favorite part of this book is the fact it moves along at a fast pace. I was able to read the pages and did not want the story to end, turning them as fast as my eyes could read them. I know when we think of vampires, we always think of Twilight. There have been numerous storylines similar but let me tell you, Terra Nova is definitely an original read and one I recommend. I also want to add the fantasy aspect is believable, and the protagonist of Evangeline is likable in a way that makes me want Book 2!

Please note: I received this product for free, but the thoughts and opinions are all mine.

Terra Nova by MtG was a great read.
The slow build of the first portion of the book focuses on character development and laying the groundwork of what is yet to come. I love how the way the author brought the characters to life and kept you wondering what lay between the next pages. Following the story of Evangeline as she navigates through this strange world, you begin to wonder whether she really belongs back home, or if her new reality was home all along. This book has it all, adventure, conflict, mystery and a hint of romance, I can’t wait to read what’s next.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great fantasy escape
Reviewed in Canada on September 11, 2020
I was looking for a chick-flick type of book for a fun escape into a fantasy world. This book fits the bill but it's also surprisingly well written with some deeper, dark parts. Without providing too many spoilers, what I really enjoyed was that there isn't just one hero but a number of developed female characters and its actually unknown who the true hero is going to be in the end (this is book 1 of a series). The feminist in me also really liked the fact that the main female isn't all consumed by love like in Twilight but actually retains her own character - the concept of love is more realistically protrayed as something that grows, rather than how the typical paranormal romance generally protrays it.
Overall a great fantasy escape.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great intro to a new world

The best way I can summarize this book is to compare it to the first Dune movie: it's the introduction to the universe of Terra Nova. The action initially is slow with lots of words building and character development. About midway the action starts to really get going and by the end you can't wait for the next book in the series.
Good for older teens to adults
