THE LORD SHIVA NARRATIVE: A comprehensive collection of stories, life lessons, and philosophy relating to the indomitable Lord of Destruction. (The Celestial Narratives) Kindle Edition

4.9 out of 5 stars 17 ratings

5 star praise for THE LORD SHIVA NARRATIVE:

"Erudite but easy to read."

"Delightful commentary throughout the book enabling the reader to transcend time to fully experience the narratives while imparting moral values and life lessons along the way.”

"Thorough, well-written, and informative."

"A scholarly piece of work but with the author's trademark conversational tone and amusing side notes.”

Book Description: Lord Shiva is The Destroyer, The Lord of Animals, The King of The Dance and The Primeval Sage. Readers are invited on a journey through thousands of years of folklore, scripture, temple depictions, and philosophy to discover The Lord Shiva Narrative. The book has four parts, each relevant for readers at one of the four "Ashrama" stages of life: Student-Householder-Retiree-Aesthetic:

Part A (Brahmacharya Student) includes the engaging adventures of Lord Shiva and then distills these into fifty-two (weekly) moral lessons;
Part B (Grihastha Householder) is a walk through the Hindu Scriptures;
Part C (Vanaprastha Retiree) is a review of Lord Shiva Temples;
Part D (Sannyasa Aesthetic) relates to the non-dualist philosophy of the seventy-seven Shiva Sutras.

"Relevant to all ages. It is well structured for a younger audience in part A whilst also serving as a source of reference to others for the philosophy of Lord Shiva.” Dr. R Thavasothy, Consultant Psychiatrist.

Shiv writes non-judgmental, fact based, comparative philosophy and mythology based on ancient texts scribed thousands of years ago. He is the author of "The Lord Shiva Narrative", the first of the four books in the "Celestial Narratives" series (the remaining books cover the Buddha, Lord Vishnu, and Goddess Shakti).

“Warrior God” will be published in May 2021 and is the first in a series of comparative mythology books that consider the Pyramid Texts, the Book of the Dead, the Epic of Baal, the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Aztec and Mayan Codices, the Torah, the Iliad, the Odyssey, the Histories, the Mahabharata, the Ramayana, the Prose Edda, and many more ancient texts.

Shiv is publishing a series of fictional novellas for ages 11+ in relation to the "SHODASH Warriors" (sixteen demon and demi-god warriors selected from Hindu mythology for their legendary skills). The novellas are a retelling of ancient stories interspersed with new stories whilst respecting the core philosophy of the characters. The first of these novellas: "Glory to Hanuman" will be published on 27th April.

Shiv is also working on the "Mindful Trilogy" of books that isolate key life lessons from his interactions as a father, sports coach and business leader. He is the founder and guardian of the MAHA Foundation which makes charitable grants to projects in support of children and young adults in need.

    Excellent! Despite growing up culturally as a hindu, have always been slightly embarrassed that I don’t really know the stories or history fully. And now I have a little daughter have been looking for a well written English comprehensive guide to help teach myself as well as educate her as she grows up. Didn’t think this was possible but this book has certainly done just that! It’s extremely well written and the author has organized the book very cleverly. Lovely collection of all the morals and particularly appreciated the primer and look at religious / historical sites. Very much looking forward to further books by this author and really appreciate all the time it must have taken to put this together!

    The Lord Shiva Narrative enables the reader to relate to the various stages of life they have experienced, are currently experiencing and are yet to experience on their path to spiritual enlightenment. The book is an easy read, even for younger readers, to understand the various stories and doesn’t require any prior knowledge of the Hindu scriptures. Through the effective use of pictures, scriptures, maps and his own delightful commentary throughout the book, Shiv enables the reader to transcend time to fully experience the narratives while imparting moral values and life lessons along the way.

    I find it this is a very useful book to know about Hindu religion and history behind it. This book definitely will encourage generations to come to get an idea about what is our religion is about. It is a good book and the research brought forget history back to life.

    This book was erudite but easy to read. It could be a useful teaching tool for younger people learning the tenets of Hinduism but also has information relevant to older citizens. I especially liked the author’s explanatory notes which were informative.
