Peace and Hope is helping internally and international displaced families in Latin America

Please join us in helping families who are in dire need during this pandemic!

Peace and Hope/Paz y Esperanza is mobilizing desperately needed financial resources to help families in extreme poverty in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru:

COLOMBIA

With more than 7 million internally displaced people as a result of its long internal armed conflict, hundreds of thousands of families in Colombia live in vulnerable communities under conditions of exclusion and extreme poverty. In addition, during the last three years, more than 1.6 million Venezuelans have migrated to Colombia, escaping from the terrible political and economic crisis in their home country. Many of them have had no choice but to settle in marginal communities, suffering the same limitations that Colombian families in extreme poverty experience on a daily basis. Their dire situation has been further aggravated by not being able to go out to work on the streets due to the CoronaVirus crisis since the country is on lock-down. Peace and Hope in Colombia is actively helping Colombian and Venezuelan families with food and other essential provisions.

ECUADOR

In Ecuador, Peace and Hope has also been actively involved in providing humanitarian aid to Venezuelan migrants: food, shelter and medical assistance. During the health and economic emergency generated by COVID-19 and the compulsory social distancing decreed by the national government to prevent its spread, Peace and Hope continues to work along the same lines, providing Venezuelan migrant families with food and psycho-social care, as conditions allow. More than 500,000 Venezuelans are currently living in Ecuador, one of the countries hardest hit by the CoronaVirus crisis in Latin America.

PERU

The government of Peru also decreed compulsory social distancing as a security measure in response to the pandemic on March 16, 2020. The current situation seriously affects the economy of many Peruvian families who, in many cases, engage in informal economic activities to survive, given the lack of jobs.

Peace and Hope has also been working with Venezuelan migrants in various projects in the city of Lima especially since 2018. To date, more than 860,000 Venezuelans are in Peru, hoping to survive in the midst of this crisis. Peace and Hope's immediate response to the health emergency has been to provide economic assistance to Venezuelan families in the most precarious economic conditions in the districts of Ate Vitarte and BreƱa, so that they can have food, soap and water during the lock-down period in the country.
