Social-Emotional Learning

We know that social-emotional learning (SEL) is foundational to learning and developing important life skills. At Branksome, we have adopted the CASEL model, which has five core competencies:

More information about the CASEL framework can be found here. Our well-being model is a whole-school approach that incorporates our school values, these SEL competencies, our IB approaches to learning, and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) principles. By explicitly teaching SEL skills in classes and grade-level collaboration times, as well as implicitly living our SEL aspirations and goals by the ways in which we interact and collaborate, we equip our students and our community with the skills needed to cope and thrive in a complex world.

Branksome Hall provides a broad scope of support so that each student is known by caring adults in our community. The range of support includes subject teachers, Learning Strategies teachers, School Counsellors, Social Workers, School Nurses and Advisors. We ensure there are multiple pathways to receive support and emphasize the importance of help-seeking, including recognizing when help is needed.
