This series is heart wrenching and beautiful and harrowing and mind bending all at once. Every page is so meticulously written to drop the breadcrumbs to the truth, but even when I worked out a few things, I was still surprised as hell when they were dropped on us.
I’m going straight into book 3!

Sacrificial Sinners: A Dark Reverse Harem Romance (Blackwood Institute Book 2) Kindle Edition
RETURN TO BLACKWOOD INSTITUTE.
RUN BY THE INSANE, FOR THE INSANE.
Monster. Victim. Predator. Prey.
I’ve always been certain of one hard fact – I don’t deserve to live. For all the pain and suffering I’ve inflicted, I tried to take the ultimate punishment. Anything to escape the horror of living with my crimes.
Survival wasn’t part of the bargain. The family I never intended to find are determined to keep me alive, but my mind has been turned against me.
I don’t know what’s real anymore.
When the devil comes knocking, I’m forced to confront the truth. Blackwood Institute is far from what it seems. Now, I must learn how deep the darkness truly goes.
As our lives are thrown into chaos, harrowing secrets are uncovered and the carefully constructed illusion begins to unravel. I’ll stop at nothing to protect my family, even if that means sacrificing myself to the horrors of the Z Wing.
I’ve been running from my demons for a long time, but the truth is about to catch up to me.
Time to become the monster the world thinks I am.
Author's Note: Sacrificial Sinners is a reverse harem contemporary romance set in an experimental mental health institution. This is book two in the trilogy and it must be read in order. Full trigger warning is available inside the book.

Ok, so I’m a little twisted, but I do love a bit of (fictional) violence, conspiracies and the ‘bad but good’ overcoming the ‘bad… evil’!

Continuation of Blackwood
Reviewed in the United States on 23 August 2023Verified Purchase
This book picked up from where book one left off and came with more twists. We learn Blackwood is not all it seems to be and surprises you with even darker parts.
I was hooked from the very beginning. You keep wanting to know the secrets of Blackwood and Brooke and her me. It is dark, twisted, and disturbing but you can’t put it down.
Be prepared to be mad for how Blackwood treats their patients but the way Brooke and her men face everything is crazy nuts and imperfectly perfect. I’m ready to see how this story ends in Desecrated Saints.

crikey, that was heavy...

Phew. That demands a moment to compose oneself.
Intense, dark, all things curious that make you question yourself and your beliefs...”Sacrificial Sinners” was everything you imagine the world isn't, wish the world wasn't, all the while accepting that somewhere, maybe not so far in distance, something evil is allowed to exist.
While many of us are lucky not to have to go through quite such levels of physical and/or psychological torment as is described on these pages, there is light even in the darkest of places (because without light there can be no darkness).
This book is neither “good” nor “bad”. It paints a colourful picture and puts everything (yes, existential-level “everything”) into question. I do take some kind of sick pleasure out of reading about the vilest of creatures in their depraved element, and I do enjoy the discourse around the shades of grey that is modern-day morality... mixing in the promise of a future with passion, purpose, and self-sacrificial redemption and I'm hook line and sinker.
I'll say it again. This book is dark. It's even darker than part one. The things its main characters have had to endure, not just during the course of the story, but in their off-page development, is mindblowing. Mix in the everyday torment of severe neurological divergence with their own bar-setting level of demands—
You couldn't make this stuff up. Well, it takes a certain kind of person to do that. And J Rose did. Quite well too.
There is a level of realism that is both easy to believe and suspend, but needless to say books about mental health and trauma will always have this profound effect on me. Characters with depth and well-constructed pasts interwoven with seductive levels of charisma obviously helps. I'm just hugely appreciative that this book gave its subject the dedication and empathy it rightfully deserves while maintaining a riveting narrative and allowing us to embrace our inner sociopaths. Because make no mistake, we're all capable of it under the right circumstances.

The second book in the Blackwood Institute series was.. a WILD ride.
𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫. 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐦. 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫. 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐲.
When the devil comes knocking, I’m forced to confront the truth. Blackwood Institute is far from what it seems. Now, I must learn how deep the darkness truly goes. I’ve been running from my demons for a long time, but the truth is about to catch up to me.
Time to become the monster the world thinks I am.
This book was definitely DARK and heavy on the mental health representation, pls check TW. In the beginning there was a reference to the Standford prison experiment and I can understand why. Blackwood claimed to be the future of psychiatric care were they treated patients as science projects to create perfect monsters.
I have to say, because I work in psychiatry, it was sometimes a bit hard to read. But nevertheless I was intrigued by this book and I will finish this series! The ending definitely has something to do with that.. 👀

This is book two, and it didn't disappoint. This book takes you on a journey and makes you look at your own moral compass. This book reminded me of the Stanford Prison Experiment that really happened and what power and money can do. I love that Brooke, even fighting her demons, had Logan looking out for her along with the guys. This book did bring tears to my eyes when she figured out Logan. I also love that even in the worst of time, hope and love push through.
