The best resorts of Costa del Maresme

The Costa del Maresme (cat. Costa del Maresme) is a stretch of the coastline of Catalonia (Spain) that coincides with the coast of the Maresme region and covers a total of 16 municipalities from Montgat to the Tordera estuary. It is bordered in the north by the Costa Brava and in the south by the Costa de Barcelona.

It is one of the most popular parts of the Mediterranean resorts of Spain.

It is a coastal strip stretching between the Mediterranean Sea and the coastal ridge that protects it from the northerly winds. The Maresme Coast is characterized by extensive beaches and golden sands, fishing villages and areas with a long tradition of tourism. Characterized by a mild climate and a Mediterranean landscape, it is a residential and tourist area of the TOP level, which has become the home of many Barcelonians in recent decades.

There are five marinas in the region and fishing is mainly concentrated in Arenys de Mar. For this reason, the Catalan Tourism Agency has recognized this city and Sant Paul de Mar as fishing villages.

In front of the Maresme coast lies Alghero Mataro, which contains some of the best-preserved oceanic Posidonia meadows in the country. Its over 2,900 hectares have been integrated into the Costes del Maresme Natural Protected Area since 2006, and in 2014 they were declared a Special Protected Area (ZEC) by the Generalitat of Catalonia.

Posidonia or glass algae is a plant of great ecological importance and very beneficial for marine ecosystems, which is the subject of study and dissemination through public-private initiatives in the region, such as the Posidonia 2021 project.

The Costa del Maresme has a total of 54 beaches and coves, with a total length of 55 km, most of which are medium to coarse golden sand.

They range from urban beaches with all kinds of services to more natural beaches away from urban centers. These include awarded the Blue Flag beaches and those that have received a commitment to the sustainability of the biosphere and those that have been awarded the Q (Spanish system of the voluntary quality label for tourism products and services).
