BLKTech Interactive/Charlotte was founded in 2016 after the police killed Lamont Scott (an unarmed Black man) in Charlotte, NC. The founders wanted to create a safe space for Black techies, innovators, and investors to convene and discuss the future they wanted to see for the City of Charlotte. In March 2021, City Startup Labs acquired the assets of BlkTech Interactive/Charlotte. City Startup Labs is a hybrid accelerator and incubator that is currently working on empowering formerly incarcerated citizens with entrepreneurship skills and capital.
