At least 1 person killed in Oakland in California's third mass shooting in 3 days

From CNN's Taylor Romine

One person was killed and seven others injured in a shooting Monday night in Oakland, California, police said — the third mass shooting in the state within three days.

What happened in Oakland: Officers were dispatched to the 5900 block of Macarthur Boulevard just after 6:00 p.m. to investigate an alert from a ShotSpotter, which is gunshot detection technology, the Oakland Police Department said in a statement.

When officers arrived at the scene they found “several casings” but no victims, the statement said. During the investigation, officers learned there had been a shooting between several individuals, police said.

Multiple hospitals then began alerting police they had received multiple patients suffering gunshot wounds who had self-transported to the facilities for treatment.

The seven injured people were in stable condition, police said. The deceased victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notification, they added.

Third mass shooting: Just hours earlier, about 40 miles southwest of Oakland, seven people were killed and one was critically wounded in shootings at two locations in Half Moon Bay, officials said. A 66-year-old suspect is in custody.

And in Southern California, 11 people were killed in a mass shooting Saturday night in Monterey Park.

Owners of mushroom farm "shook" after deadly Half Moon Bay mass shooting

From CNN’s Joe Sutton

The owners of a Northern California mushroom farm where a gunman killed four people and wounded another before killing three more people at a nearby trucking facility said they were shaken by Monday's deadly events.

In a statement to CNN, San Mateo County-based Concord Farms said with "no past knowledge with this gunman or his motives, we are shook and very eager to gain more information from the authorities and their investigations."

Dave Pine, San Mateo Board of Supervisors president, told CNN the suspect has been apprehended and is a 66-year-old man who lives in Half Moon Bay.

The shootings Monday come just two days after at least 11 people were killed in a mass shooting at a dance studio in Monterey Park, California.

Concord Farms said they are a family-owned mushroom farm who have been in their location for 37 years and thanked the support of the community in the wake of the shootings and swift actions of law enforcement.

"Our hearts are with the victims, their families and the Chinese American community — from Half Moon Bay to Monterey Park," the statement said.

The suspect in the mass shooting in Half Moon Bay, California, is "believed to be a worker" at one of the locations where people were shot, San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus said Monday.

Asked about what other information she could share about the suspect, she said:

"We can tell you we know he acted alone at this time. And we are working with our district attorney's office at this time to interview the suspect. And as soon we have further updates, we will be able to provide them to you."

Corpus added that law enforcement also believes "at this time" the semi-automatic weapon found when the suspect was detained in his vehicle was the only weapon involved in the shooting.

The suspect was identified as Chunli Zhao, a 66-year-old resident of Half Moon Bay.
