Small Grants Scheme 2022

The deadline for applications for our 2022 Small Grants Scheme has now passed. Applications are being assessed and both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be informed soon.

Since early 2020, Covid-19 has made existing inequalities worse. Migrant workers and their families are one of the many groups of vulnerable people who have experienced increased hardship over the last two years. For its 2022 Small Grants Scheme, The BEARR Trust invited separate applications for the following grants:

‘A’ Projects:

Funding for projects that propose ways of improving the social welfare of migrant workers and the wellbeing of their families. Projects may support migrant workers in the countries where they are working, and / or their families in their countries of origin.

Please note: ‘Migrant workers’ will be taken to mean ‘Labour migrants’, defined by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) as ‘those who move for the purpose of employment’.

‘B’ Projects:

We also invited separate applications for up to £1,000 from former grantees only to fund activities to improve the welfare of their staff and volunteers, and to improve their organisation’s resilience. All former grantees were eligible to apply for this funding, even if not proposing a project under the 2022 theme of helping labour migrants and their families.

The deadline for applications was Friday 18 February at 23:59 GMT.

Applications are welcome from civil society organisations (CSOs) in any of the countries in which BEARR works, namely: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, or Uzbekistan.

BEARR is most interested in projects that will work in partnership with, or extend collaboration to, other organisations in the same country or in another country, and that take an imaginative or unusual approach to the problems faced by migrant workers and their families. BEARR particularly welcomes applications from new and small CSOs.

Projects should normally be completed within six months of the receipt of funds, and applicants are expected to complete a monitoring form and to write an article about their project for publication on BEARR’s website. The BEARR Trust reserves the right to commission independent evaluation of any project funded.

BEARR trustee Ross Gill spoke about the application process and what made makes a good project, to help you prepare the strongest application possible for this year’s scheme. We also heard from representatives of two 2021 grantee organisations – TAUR NGO in Moldova and Winds of Change in Ukraine.

You can watch the English language video recording of the webinar here and a Russian audio recording here. A written report is also available here.
