Step inside the ruins of this Renaissance residence of the Stewart kings and the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots.

The Kelpies

Driving along towards Stirling we pass by two 30 metre tall horse head sculptures. Be amazed by this man-made feat of engineering and the largest equine statue in the world.

Storm the gates at Doune Castle

Climb the battlements and admire the views of the River Teith and surrounding hills. Walk in the footsteps of rulers both real and fictional.

This medieval courtyard castle has featured on screen in Monty Python, Game of Thrones, and Outlander.

Take time out at midday to rest and stop for lunch at Bridge of Allan, a former spa town at the foot of the Ochil Hills.

If there’s time left
