In recent years, social media platforms have become a new source of income for individuals, but has also become a lifeline for thousands who want to raise awareness about causes that are so regularly ignored by mainstream media, many of which have strategic political interests that do not match these 'struggles.'

For example, the technology conglomerate 'Facebook' in January, wanted to change its hate speech policy, which included conflating the word 'Zionist' with that of 'Jew' or 'Israeli,' both of which are protected under Facebook's hate speech community standards.

Zionism is a nationalist ideology which calls for the establishment of a Jewish state in historical Palestine.

There are several reasons why this becomes problematic, the first of which is that Zionism is not an ideology shared among all those of the Hebrew faith.

The second reason is that dissolving the differences between these words in the community policy denies all Palestinians the ability to speak freely about their daily struggles and oppression which is largely dictated by Zionism.

Yet, tech companies have yet to address this matter, and are now actively putting in efforts to exclude Palestinian voices and support from their platforms, according to several pro-Palestinian social media activists.

By doing so, this only expands the strategic removal and silencing of Palestinians and their allies online.

Although the change to hate speech policy - which specifically waters down the plight of Palestinians-  is still being mulled uver - the basic rights and voices of Palestinians are actively being censored and limited on social media through other means.

In the past nine days, the Israeli Occupation has increased their brutality and violence on Palestinians in Gaza and Jerusalem.

This all began after Palestinians began protesting against the forced uprooting of Palestinians from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood by Israeli Occupation settlers, who are under constant protection of the Israeli Occupation Forces.

Many social media activists in recent days are claiming that their posts on Palestine are being censored. This was accompanied with proof, spread all over social media, of the difference in views and engagement, in comparison with their other posts.

In turn, social media activists posted many infographics online, explaining how to play smart to 'defeat the algorithm.'

"Instagram's censorship of Palestinian voices is nothing but racist," said the Palestinian-Jordanian social media activist Jouman Barakat, a young woman living in Amman who regularly sheds light on the crisis in Palestine by the hands of the Israeli Occupation, to Roya News English.

She continued, "As an application that's meant to share experiences and opinions, they surely are doing a horrible job!”

She compared the balance of power between the Israeli Occupation and Palestine, noting “Netanyahu's meetings with Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok lobbyists and executives is proof of the rights that are being stripped away from not only Palestinians in Palestine, but the general public all around the world."

She emphasized how mainstream media is no longer reliable, with powers now shifting to individuals on the ground "such as citizens in Palestine and Gaza, and (micro) influencers on social media."

Barakat indicated that these people are the ones doing the real reporting without any "biased incentive."

"So when executives at Facebook and Instagram are continuously putting effort to censor and shut them up in indirect ways, the world slowly starts to realize the racist, fascist, and capitalist agenda behind many of these corporations."

Power will always remain with the people, said Barakat.

The owner of House of Afandi Records, a Jordanian disco, funk and house record label and collective, Karam Risheg, told Roya News English that he is not surprised about the recent censorships.

"I am not surprised at all, but I'm also not surprised either at how the people are able to crack it and beat the algorithm," said Risheg.

Risheg added, "Instagram's CEO is a Zionist, it makes perfect sense if anything... it's pathetic behavior."

On the official House of Afandi page on Instagram, a post was dedicated to overcoming censorship:
