The Pushkin House, formally the Institute of Russian Literature, is a research institute in Vasilyevsky Island, St. Petersburg. It is part of a network of institutions affiliated with the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Since 1927 the Institute has been located at the address: Makarova Embankment, 4 – the former building of the Maritime Customs. It’s a historical building in the style of classicism, part of the architectural ensemble of the Spit of Vasilyevsky Island. The customs house was built in 1829-1832 according to the project of I.F. Lukini on the site of the Lopukhins’ mansion.
Since 1995, Pushkin House has been included in the State Code of Especially Valuable Cultural Heritage Objects.
The Pushkin House Literary Museum is one of the first historical and literary museums in Russia. The museum became the basis for the creation of several significant today and well-known literary memorial museums in Russia: A.S. Pushkin, N.A. Nekrasov, A.A. Blok.
The exposition of the Literary Museum is open to visitors from Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 17:00.
