The training offering at ESAMI-trapca has grown to include three key focus facets of international trade: International Trade Policy, International Trade Law and International Trade Facilitation. The training courses cover academic and competency-based training designed to equip participants with analytical skills. In addition to the academic courses, ESAMI-trapca provides tailor-made executive training designed to enhance specific skills of more senior officials from the public, private and civil society.
Overview
The Academic Courses in ESAMI-trapca focus on the following three key important areas of international trade: International Trade Policy, International Trade Law and International Trade Facilitation. The ESAMI-trapca Academic Courses that are offered in both English and French Language, firstly lead to an award of a Post-Graduate Diploma in International Trade Policy and Trade Law, Advanced Level (PGDA) and finally to a prestigious, one of the kind, Master of Science Degree in International Trade Policy and Trade Law (MSc), that is accredited by Lund University of Sweden.
The Path to attainment of the Academic Awards.
In order to be admitted into the ESAMI-trapca academic programmes, at the minimum the applicant must:
In fulfillment of its mandate in the area of trade policy, and to facilitate successful completion of participants in its specialized multidisciplinary advanced academic courses, ESAMI-trapca requires the participants to first successfully complete it TRP 400 Pre-Requisite Courses and then get admitted into the advanced academic courses that lead to the prestigious awards of PGDA and MSc highlighted above.
2.1 Advanced Pre-requisite Courses
The Advanced Pre-requisite Courses, which are also known as TRP 400, are offered through the ESAMI-trapca e-learning platform over the duration of six weeks covering three key foundational modules, namely: Introduction to International Trade Law, Economics of International Trade and lastly, Trade Data Retrieval and Analysis.
The first two weeks are dedicated to the module on Introduction to International Trade Law, followed by another set of two weeks focusing on Economics of International Trade and finishing with a two weeks session on Introductory Aspects of Quantitative Trade Policy Analysis. At the end of each module, participants take online examinations and those that successfully complete the assessments become eligible for admission into the Advanced Academic Courses (highlighted below) that lead to the PGDA and MSc Awards. In addition to attaining eligibility for admission into the Advanced Courses, upon completion of these three modules participants acquire critical skills and knowledge in the area of trade policy that enhance their ability to appreciate and articulate trade policy issues as attested by sample feedback from Alumni.
Upon successful completion of the TRP 400 Pre-requisite course, participants are required to apply for admission into advanced courses through the ESAMI-trapca application portal, whose tab is accessible of the top right-side of the ESAMI-trapca website.
As indicated in the admissions section, unless admitted on tuition scholarship, the fees for the TRP 400 Course is $250 and to apply for this course (click here to apply.) or on the application tab on the top right hand side of the ESAMI-trapca website. As you apply make sure you have gathered together a copy of your first degree, its results transcripts and your brief CV and turned them into PDF to be uploaded on the application tab as a single file.
2.2. Advanced courses: Level 500
Overview
ESAMI-trapca offers a total of 10 advanced courses that have to be taken by anyone desirous of attaining the award of its prestigious Master of Science Degree in International Trade Policy and Trade Law (MSc). Each of the 10 advanced courses is offered through a two-week on-site learning in Arusha, Tanzania and off-site pre-session and post-session assignments each corresponding to two weeks learning activities.
The following ten modules are on the menu of advanced courses that are part of the ESAMI-trapca MSc Degree Programme:
The first two of the above courses are core courses, which must be passed for students to be awarded either a Post-Graduate Diploma in International Trade Policy and Trade Law, Advanced Level or a Master of Science Degree in International Trade Policy and Trade Law. There are also fundamental courses namely TRP 503, TRP 504, TRP 505, TRP 507 and TRP 508. These courses are a key feature of the advanced courses and further constitute fundamental areas in which sectoral dimension of international trade policy and trade law find their practical meaning. There are also elective courses that are made up of: TRP 506, TRP 509 and TRP 510. These courses differentiated by their areas of specialisation and their relevance may be seasonal.
The Awards
The Independent Advanced Level Courses may lead to either a Postgraduate Diploma in International Trade Policy and Trade Law, Advanced Level; or to a Master of Science Degree in International Trade Policy and Trade Law.
To qualify for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in International Trade Policy and Trade Law, Advanced Level; a candidate shall be required to pass the two core advanced courses, namely: TRP 501 and TRP 502 plus three other advanced courses from the remaining eight.
To qualify for the award of the Master of Science Degree in International Trade Policy and Trade Law; a candidate shall be required to pass all 10 advanced courses and a Master thesis, which is undertaken with supervision from ESAMI-trapca Faculty members. ESAMI-trapca with funding from the Swedish Government through Sida provides limited number of scholarships for the Academic Courses to applicants from African Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Low Income Countries (LICs) as per the DAC List of LDCs and LICs. These scholarships are mainly partial, covering either one or a combination of at least two of any of the following components: tuition, accommodation and travel to Arusha, Tanzania.
