Debate on Teaching EGP or ESP in College English:Problems and Suggested SolutionsChinese Full Text

Abstract: One of the most controversial debate topics in current College English teaching is w hether EGP should be replaced by ESP. This paper focuses on the major difference betw een tw o contrasting view s（ i. e. ESP only vs. EGP plus ESP） in this debate. It consists of three sections. Section One analyzes the major misunderstanding in the view of ESP only,i. e. EGP being regarded as basic English; Section Tw o explains w hy EGP and ESP should be provided at the same time by all universities for students to select according to their needs; Section Three illustrates how to provide EGP and ESP together in College English teaching in terms of principles and practice.
