Dorney Lake is a world-class rowing and flat-water canoeing centre in a spectacular, 400-acre park land setting near Windsor.  It hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. It provides the perfect venue for these events. 100% traffic free roads and paths, very flat, very safe.

Please follow car parking marshal instructions on arrival and signs to the event area.
Coronavirus (COVID-19)

 Please do not attend the event if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
All of our event plans have been written following British Triathlon and RunBritain guidance.
How to get there

Dorney Lake is ideally placed, being within easy reach of London, Heathrow Airport, the M4 corridor and the M25, M40 and M3 motorways. It is also well served by the rail network.

Please check for any M4 closures or restrictions before travelling.

M4 Closure Information
Dorney Lake has a small number of bike parking spaces and is located on National Cycle Network routes 4 and 61, should you wish to arrive at the venue by bicycle.  Ask marshals for directions to the bike parking when you arrive.
Arrival

On arrival to the site please follow signs and instructions from marshals.  Allow yourself enough time to park up, collect your race numbers and get yourself ready for your race.  

Once you are parked up please make sure that you have everything you need before leaving your car.  Race Enquiries, where you will collect your number, will be located on the ground floor of the boathouse.  Transition, for duathletes, will be located a short walk from Race Enquiries.  

You will need to bring all your race kit with you, as you will be racking your bike and/or starting your race immediately after leaving the car park. 

There will be toilets and changing facilities in the event area, open from 7am.

On arrival:
1    Park your car
2    Collect one or all of the following, depending on your event: bib number (this will include your timing chip), wristband, bike and helmet stickers from Race Enquiries. 
3    Are you changed for your event?  What do you need to take to transition and/or the start line? 
4    Bike number.  Have you stuck your number on the seat post of your bike?
5    Helmet number. Have you stuck your number to the front of your helmet?
6    Bib number.  Should be visible from the back for the cycle and from the front for the run for the duathlon, and pinned to your front if you are taking part in a running event.
8    Go to the toilet!

Social Distancing

All elements of the events are outdoors so there will be plenty of space around the event site to spread out.  However, Race Enquiries will be located indoors.  Please give your fellow competitors and our staff plenty of space as they are collecting their number or helping you with your number collection.
 
Where it is possible, please try to maintain a 2m distance from other competitors whilst running and 10m whilst cycling. Only overtake when it is safe to do so. Signage will be in place where overtaking is not possible. 

Event Registration

Race Enquiries will be within the Boathouse, in the boatbay closest to the car park end of the building.

Your bib number and bike/helmet stickers (where applicable) will be available for collection on the event day.  Please have your event registration email ready to show in case we can't find your details straight away.

Depending on the event you are completing you will be supplied with any or all of the following:
•    bib number (this will include your timing chip regardless of which event you are competing in)
•    bike and helmet stickers (duathlon only)
•    wristband (duathlon only)

Duathlon wristbands will be coloured specific to the distance that you are competing in.

British Triathlon - Day Membership

As part of being a permitted British Triathlon event our duathlon participants benefit from BTF insurance.  If you are not a member of a triathlon club, please download the day membership for the event.

Bag Drop, Changing & Catering

Bag drop will be located at Race Enquiries.

Changing facilities will be available from 7am.

Please come dressed for your event and leave belongings that you don’t need in the transition area or in your car. You will be permitted to leave a small soft sided bag at your transition position. This should be kept tidy and within your bike rack area. Hard boxes are not permitted in transition, if you bring your belongings in one you will be asked to decant them at your transition space and to leave the box outside of the transition exit for collection later.

Please bring any fuel or food that you may need before, during and after your race with you. We will be making bottled water available at the start and finish, and there will be a water station on the bike course and run route.  All water stations will be self service.  The water station on the bike course will be for refilling your own water bottles that you already have on your bike.

Toilets are located next to transition, which is also on the run course.

Mr Brightside will be serving hot drinks and a limited range of snacks.

Warming Up

If you need space to warm up before your event that is not possible next to do your car, ask marshals to be directed to the quieter area on the north side of the lake.

Spectators

Dorney Lake is now open to the public, so spectators will be permitted with no restrictions.  For anyone bringing a dog with them, please remember to keep it on a lead at all times.

Equipment

We have both duathlon and running events happening across the day and the equipment you’ll need will depend on the disciplines that you are taking part in. We recommend that you have some or all of the following:

  • Your bike must be safe and road worthy. Bikes will be checked when they go into transition and if they are not road worthy will be directed to be repaired. You will not be allowed to start until the bike is repaired.
  • Helmets must be ANSI/SNELL/BSI approved; you must have your helmet on and fastened at all times that you are in charge of your bike, this includes whilst walking or running it into and out of transition.
  • Trainers: very important, don't forget them!
  • Number: bib number, bike sticker, helmet sticker. DO NOT forget these.  Bib number should be worn on the front when you are running and on the back when you are cycling.  We recommend that you use a race belt. Bike number goes on your bike sear post. Helmet number to be stuck to the front of your helmet.
  • Water & fuel: bottled water will be available on the day, but please try to bring your own and any fuel that you require with you.  There will be a water station on the run course, but not on the bike course for the duathlon.  There will be two water stations on the running event course.

The use of headphones is strictly prohibited throughout the duathlon events, but they are permitted during the running events.  If you choose to wear them please keep the volume low and ensure you can hear marshal instructions.

We don't have spare equipment such as helmets and trainers so double check your bag before you leave the house.  And then check it again.

Duathlon Layout

All running distances will start just south of the Boathouse.
Briefings & Timings

There will be short briefing before each event to ensure that you understand the course.  Please do not rely on this briefing though, it will be a reenforcement of the information in this email rather than new information.

We will have a mass start for each event. If you don't feel ready to start in a group please hang back and marshals will start you in smaller groups after the mass has gone.  
 
Please allow enough time to get yourself ready for your race and to arrive at your start line for your allocated start time.  If you are completing a duathlon event please make sure you leave yourself 10 minutes between finishing up in transition and lining up at the start line.

The start line for the duathlon will be on the north side of Transition.  The start line for all of the running distances will be on the south side of Transition/the Boathouse.

**PLEASE NOTE: THE CUT OFF TIME FOR THE DUATHLON BIKE COURSE WILL BE 10:45**

Transition

To enter transition, you must show your corresponding event number and bike sticker (must be stuck to your seat post) to the event marshal.  After you complete your event and collect your bike and race kit you must show your corresponding event number and bike number to event marshal to exit transition. These procedures are in place in order to provide a secure transition area while the event is in progress. No exceptions will be made. 
 
You will need to demonstrate to the transition entry marshal that your helmet is compliant so please have this handy when approaching the transition entrance.
 
DO NOT LOSE YOUR EVENT NUMBER. 
 
Any discrepancies will be dealt with at the end of the event when all other race kit 
has been removed from the transition area.
 
Signs and marshals will direct you from Race Enquiries to Transition.  Please follow the directions, as this is different to the set up that you might have previously experienced at our events.  

Only competitors are allowed in transition.
 
The transition area is surrounded by crowd control barriers to provide perimeter security.
 
Transition in general:
 
Transition will be allocated on a first come-first served basis, with 0.5m of space allocated per person.  4 bikes per rack will be permitted.  Lay your race kit out next to your bike. Make sure you keep your allocated area tidy and free from any trip hazards to other competitors.  HARD SIDED BOXES ARE NOT PERMITTED IN TRANSITION.  Soft sided bags only please.
 
Although bike spaces will only be 0.5m apart please be respectful and try to maintain distance form other competitors when navigating transition.  Please be mindful of other competitors who may have already started their event when you arrive for yours. 
 
The run in/out and bike in/out exits to transition are marked with large signs for easy identification. Please familiarise yourself fully with the layout of transition and the location of your bike. 
 
Please note: You will need to leave all the kit you need for your event next to your bike, as once the event starts you will not be able to adjust your transition area. 

Mobile phone use is not permitted in transition once it has become a live event area.  This happens as soon as the first distance starts at 8am.

Run Course

The Duathlon run course will follow the coaching path along the north edge of the lake.  The start will be in the same location as the finish line and the lap point will be just beyond this.  Marshals and signage will be at each of the lap turn points so that you don't get lost or confused.  
 
The run will be an out and back course.  Please follow the marshal directions at the correct turn point for your distance.
 

  • 2.5km = 1 lap
  • 5km = 2 laps 
  • 10km = 4 laps


The Running event course will be on paths on the south side of the lake.  All distances will start and finish in the same place and this will also be the lap point. 

The half marathon distance will complete a longer first lap.  Marshals and signage will point you in the right direction.
 

  • 5km = 1 lap
  • 10km = 2 laps
  • 15km = 3 laps
  • Half Marathon = 4 laps (longer first lap)
It is your responsibility to count the number of laps you have run.
Bike Course

Your helmet must be on your head and fastened up before you touch your bike. You must then push your bike to the BIKE OUT exit. You can mount your bike once you have crossed the mount line (as advised by the bike out marshal) and ride onto the bike course. Please be aware that they may already be cyclists out on the course lapping round as you join the route.
 
The loop is 5km long:

  • 10km = 2 laps
  • 20km = 4 laps
  • 40km = 8 laps

It is your responsibility to count the number of laps you have ridden.
 
On completion of the correct number of laps follow the BIKE IN signs to return your bike and collect your running kit. Ensure that you dismount well before the dismount line (as advised the bike in marshal) and keep your helmet on and fastened until you have racked your bike in the correct place.
 
Drafting and side-by-side riding are not permitted. A distance of 10m must be maintained behind the front wheel of the rider in front except when overtaking. When overtaking, the manoeuvre must be completed within 30 seconds. If overtaken, you should drop back.

You must have completed the bike course by 10:45am.

Finish Line

The finish line for the duathlon will be next to the start line, just north of Transition.  The finish line for the running distances will be the same as the start line, just south of the Boathouse.  Please follow the signage and marshal directions.  

Race Enquiries will be converted to Rewards, which is where you will collect your water and medal from.  These will be laid out on tables for you to help yourself to.  Staff will be on hand to clean and restock the tables, and to answer any questions, but they won’t be handing anything to you.

Once you’ve loaded yourself up from the rewards area, please head back to transition to collect your belongings, or head directly to your car.  

Results

A complete set of results will be posted online and emailed to all competitors on Sunday afternoon.
