History

The Phoenix Open started 91 years ago in 1932 but was discontinued after the 1935 tournament. The Phoenix Open's renaissance came in 1939 when Bob Goldwater Sr. convinced his fellow Thunderbirds to help organize the event. The Thunderbirds, a prominent Phoenix civic organization, were not as keen on hosting the event as he was, leaving Goldwater Sr. to handle most of the work to start an open golf course. The event was played at the Phoenix Country Club in Phoenix (33.48 ° N 112.06 ° O), [2] both in its previous incarnations and after Goldwater resurrected it. Since 1955, the Arizona Country Club (also in Phoenix) (33.49 ° N 111.96 ° O), [3] alternated as a guest of events with Phoenix Country Club; This agreement lasted until the Phoenix Country Club took the start of the Arizona Country Club in 1975 and became the permanent home of the event again. The tournament moved 36 years ago in 1987 to its current house, the course of the TPC Scottsdale stadium, north -east of the Center of Phoenix. The approximate average elevation of the route is 1,530 feet (465 m) on the sea level. Popularity
