Washington offered JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Ca.) OL Mason Murphy back on Halloween and the three-star offensive lineman will be in Seattle over the Thanksgiving Day weekend to watch the Huskies wrap up their regular season with the Apple Cup.

"I will be up there to see them play Washington State," Murphy told Dawgman.com. "I'm excited to get up there and to meet coach (Scott) Huff in person. So far I've only talked to him on the phone, so it'll be great to meet him and to sit down and talk with him while I am up there.

"All I really know about Washington right now is what coach Huff tells me, but I know of both Luke Wattenberg and Nick Harris and that they are from here. When coach Huff offered me, he said he realizes I'm not even close to realizing my full potential and he thinks I'm a good kid and he likes the way I play. He saw me at the Redlands Camp that Washington was at and that's really when they really started looking at me."

Washington is one of five schools that have offered the 6'5", 290-pounder, joining the offers from Oregon State, USC, Michigan and Arizona State.

"It's still really early for me in the recruiting process, so I'm not in a hurry to do anything," Murphy noted. "I am blessed to have all of these opportunities and I know more schools are looking at me too, so I'm not going to rush anything, but my plan right now is to take visits this offseason and then make a decision before my senior season."

"I think a big thing for me will be the academic support at the school I choose," Murphy said. "Coming into college, it's a lot different than high school and the demands are all new, so the academic support they have for the athletes will be big. I also am looking for a good program where I can see myself fitting in and obviously good coaches that I can trust and who show me that they care about me.

"Really I am looking for a family atmosphere and a place I can see myself being for four or five years."

As a junior this past season, Murphy held down right tackle for Lions, but he'll be flipping over to the other side as a senior next fall.

"It's a whole new thing for me, but I look at it as a challenge and I'm excited about it," Murphy said. "I've got to work on whole new sets because everything is the opposite of what I've done my whole life, so I've got a lot of work to do, but it's a chance to get better and something I am looking forward to."

"From my offers, USC, Washington and Arizona State are standing out," said Murphy.

More schools are in communication with Murphy.

"I've talked with Tennessee, Cal, Oregon and UCLA briefly," said Murphy.

Meanwhile, Arizona State, USC and Washington are recruiting Murphy heaivly.

"I've had a chance to visit all three and I really like each of them," said Murphy. "They all stand out in different ways to me."

Washington has had a nice recent history with JSerra.

"Nick Harris, Luke Wattenberg, Dante Pettis, there have been a lot of players from my school who've done well there," said Murphy. "Washington is a great place and I loved my time up there. I love Coach (Jimmy) Lake and Coach (Scott) Huff."

Murphy said he's got an ideal time frame in mind.

"I'd like to have a spring time decision, but I think Im going to try and take my official to Washington in June then figure out the rest of my visits from there," said Murphy.

A three-star in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, Murphy ranks as the No. 48 offensive tackle nationally in the 2021 class.

Seems like he would be a really good get. He looks mean too and that he’s not done developing.

I’m still shocked USC did so bad in recruiting last year even with all the uncertainty with Helton.
