Woman Tortured, Humiliated in Thakurgaon

A man has been arrested for reportedly beating his wife for refusing to engage in prostitution and shaving her head in public.

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon at Mistripara village, in Thakurgaon's Baliadangi Upazila.

The culprit Amirul Islam, 47, was arrested from Dangibazar yesterday after the victim, filed a case in this regard.

Locals stated Amirul had married several times, and all of his wives had left him because of his cruel abuse.

The victim said she was married to Amirul 12 years ago and has since been the object of torture over small issues.

For the last two years, he had been forcing her to have physical relations with a number of people, which she refused to comply with.

Following the repeated refusals, Amirul got furious and dragged her out of the house on Saturday last. He beat her up mercilessly and shaved her head.

At one stage, she managed to flee and take shelter in the house of one of her relatives at Phultala village in the Upazila.

Baliadangi police station OC Habibul Haque Pradhan said, acting on the case, we have arrested the victim’s husband and will soon take necessary actions against him.
