Water is the source of life. Without clean and sufficient water, life cannot be led in a normal and peaceful manner. No wonder, it is often assumed that the third world war might be due to a water crisis. All human activities require water, however, with increasing commercialization, population and consumption patterns, the need for this essence of life is at an all-time high. India is no exception. As a rapidly developing and second most populous country in the world, India is facing a severe water crisis that is becoming a critical issue for people and politicians alike.

In view of the challenges that pervade water resources and water utility services in our country, the government of India has taken concrete steps to combat the challenge with the help of technology adoption. In this, Geospatial Industry is playing an important role in helping our government to manage water resources, working with the central and state agencies for combating the water crisis and ensuring our country achieves ‘Har Ghar Jal’ that aims to provide tap water to every rural household by 2024. However, we are nowhere near achieving the full potential of geospatial technologies for the sector and the scope of engagement for the industry with the other stakeholders holds tremendous promise for everyone.

The Association of Geospatial Industries of India (AGI India), which is an industry led body, organizes the annual India Geospatial Leadership Summit – a platform that brings together various stakeholders of the Geospatial Ecosystem of the country under one umbrella to exchange ideas, vision and good practices on geospatial applications for water resources and utilities. This year, with the theme, “Geospatial Technologies Ensuring Water for All”, India Geospatial Leadership Summit will delve into some of the key issues that can ensure our country to reach the collective goal of water security.
