Attractive resort, along with sister resort Punta del Hidalgo, set beneath the Anaga mountain range. More authentically Canarian than many parts of Tenerife. Good bases for walking. Loved the wildness of the coast and spectacular high tides,

A town with some kind of nostalgic vibe due to it`s microclimate and furious ocean. The most exciting element of Bajamar - it`s natural swimming pools and some kind of lighthouse. It depends on a hour of the day - if you will swim in a calm water or in a stormy (low tide and high tide). Especially loved the sunset hour near the oceanside and late lunches at Surf Cafe. Bajamar can be also a great base to stay if you want to go exploring Anaga Park and La Laguna, etc.

There really isn’t much to Bajamar, other than hanging around the salt pools when the tide agreed. The town itself is poorly upkept with lots of condo complexes requiring an overhaul or at least a paint job!

Bajamar is a little remote town in the north an hour from the airport in the south, but we like it here and I go there repeatedly. South airport is exactly one hour by car from here, so a night of horror, Teide 1:30 hours, beaches 1:20, anaga mountains an hour to an hour and a half (many switchbacks ;-)) I don't know what the local restaurants are like, we don't usually go to them, we just bought coffee near the pools and that was always nice. There are supermarkets in the towns of Tejina and Punto del Hidalgo. It is also possible to use local cheap and reliable Titsa buses.

For the length of my trip, next time I would rent a car, either for part of the stay, or the entire stay. I ended up becoming quite familiar with the public transport system, but that does take up time out of the day. There is no ride share service available in this area, although there are taxi's, you will need to call for them. My trip was in April, just after Easter, and before the " tourist season, so it was not busy or too crowded, and a few restaurants had reduced hours. I ate at a couple of tasty restaurants, but also cooked a couple of nights in the apartment. It's easy to get around the immediate area by just walking, you can go further if you catch a bus, and there is an app for "titsa" which is the island bus service. On a future visit to the immediate Bajamar area, I would probably do a 3-5 day visit.

The city of Bajamar is not very busy and the weather can be cooler than in the south, it also rains sometimes. But it's not terrible, and if you're not all about the beach and swimming, but want to hike or go on road trips, for example, it's a great place to start your travels. You can shop in well-stocked supermarkets in the towns of Tejina or Punto Del Hidalgo. You can swim in the seaside pools right in Bajamar, as well as in Punto del Hidalgo - there is also a pleasant, if a bit cold, pool at the Altagay apartment house.
