Qatar are out: They have the worst ever record for a host nation

Qatar are out of the World Cup. Their dream is over and they have already said goodbye to their own tournament.

After two games and two defeats, the hosts have zero points and they have been eliminated, with no chance of reaching the round of 16 on the third matchday.

Qatar thus becomes the worst host in the history of the World Cup. Only South Africa, when they hosted the World Cup in 2010, were eliminated in the group stage of the tournament they organized, but at least they had a chance of reaching the next round on the final matchday, something that hasn't happened for the Qataris.

Qatar's results so far in the World Cup

Felix Sanchez's side began their tournament with a 2-0 defeat in the opening match against Ecuador, Enner Valencia's two goals sealing the game in the first half.

Things didn't get much better in the second match against Senegal, another game in which Qatar came out on the losing side, this time losing 3-1.
