2024 CFUW AGM LAC Update

For those of you planning a prairie vacation around the National AGM, please visit the webpage we have set up with links to the many attractions in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. There is a separate section for the city of Edmonton, which also includes details of the AGM location, travel and transportation links.

We are working on two organized tours (the Botanical Gardens at Devon and Fort Edmonton Park) and will provide more details of costs when we know them.

Meanwhile, there is much for you to explore on your way here, your way home and while you are staying in Edmonton.

Bon Voyage.

CFUW National Alumnae

Our purpose is to remain connected through Alumnae communications and with CFUW communications. Membership is open to Past CFUW National leaders, from the Board of Directors, Regional Directors, and Committee Chairs in good standing.

A description of our role is below:

  • acting as ambassadors and representatives for CFUW, when requested by the CFUW Board; volunteering where opportunities present;

  • providing feedback to the CFUW Board on issues as requested or as determined by the Alumnae group;

  • volunteering, in cooperation with the Board and Regional Directors, to provide support for CFUW Clubs and Regional Councils;

  • providing viewpoints, either individually or as a group, on current issues in the organization, to the CFUW Board; and

  • giving an opportunity for group discussion on topics of common interest among the CFUW National Alumnae group.

The Alumnae have one meeting a year at the National AGM in person or virtual. As we have not met in person since 2019, this year is especially exciting for us to come together for the CFUW AGM in Edmonton.

Please consider joining the National Alumnae and attending the 2024 AGM!

If you have any questions, please contact Alumnae Chair Brenda Robertson at brenda.r@sympatico.ca

CSW68 Delegates’ Report

I’m pleased to share the CSW68 Delegates’ Report, which presents a summary of this year’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and the CFUW delegates’ experiences attending the event in New York. Thank you to everyone who was involved in making CSW68 such a success—the delegates, the planning committee, and National Office.

French Connexion Discussion Group

Bonjour!

Meilleures salutations.

Pieces for Peace is Gaining Momentum!

Members from across Canada are making panels in preparation for our CFUW Peace Demonstration on Parliament Hill September 21st, 2024.

Panels made by members

September 21st is the UN International Day of Peace and we invite all CFUW members to participate in Pieces for Peace.

  • Our PEACE demonstration will start at 12:00pm on September 21st at Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

  • Panels containing peace messages will accompany the demonstration. How they will be displayed will be determined by the weather & by the number of participants on site.

  • VERY IMPORTANT: the messages, symbols & colours MUST BE NEUTRAL, not associated with any particular conflict or war going on presently. We are petitioning for PEACE worldwide.

  • There are no size or medium requirements but if members wish to mail their panels, an 18” x 18” fabric panel can be folded in half, then folded again to fit into a business size envelope.

  • Several clubs have organized panel making gatherings. GREAT! Thank you!

  • Members are invited to send images of their blocks (or any questions) to deborah.dimitruk@gmail.com (Sherbrooke & District) or Joan Conrod at naoj39@icloud.com (Nepean) for inclusion in the Club Action Newsletter.

Whether attending a demonstration in person or not, members and clubs can produce an unlimited number of panels to be displayed at the demonstration. The more panels, the stronger the message.
