Infa Red Recordings present their second release by Copenhagen-based artist Muskila, a nimble two-tracker that follows on perfectly from Bluetoof’s debut for the label earlier this year. The title track ‘Bateekh’ is a heavily percussive roller, which teams up a combination of traditional darbuka drums and driving breakbeats, the former an ode to Muskila’s roots. His heritage is further echoed in the titling of the release, which translates to “watermelon”, a symbol of the resistance of the Palestinian people. The B-side ‘Hayvan’ compliments the title track with similar percussive rhythms, this time set at a more scatterbrained 150bpm, with deranged, evolving melodies that build to a huge crescendo of drums before settling into a satisfyingly dubby lull.
