Petition of Legal Profession for the Protection of the 

                    RULE OF LAW  and HUMAN RIGHTS

       attacked by the War and Aggression against Ukraine

We, the undersigned, Lawyers, Barristers, Solicitors, Judges, Public Lawyers, Legal Practitioners and Bar Association Leaders from all over the world stand united and condemn the War and Aggression against Ukraine, its democratically elected Institutions and Civil Society!

The War against Ukraine is a flagrant, unacceptable and non-justifiable breach of the Charter of the United Nations, the Rule of Law and universal, indisputable Human Rights. It is a threat to World Peace.

We, jointly with the Ukrainian Bar Association, demand the Russian Leadership to immediately stop the War and all military actions in the territory of Ukraine and at its borders, in line with the Charter of the United Nations and the fundamental principles of International Law

We oppose all military aggression of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus and condemn all war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Ukraine.

We urge the Government of the Russian Federation to refrain from military attacks against civilians and civilian objects, including residential premises, emergency vehicles and other specially protected civilian objects such as schools and hospitals, and to ensure immediately the safety of the medical establishments, personnel and emergency vehicles within the territory under attack or siege by Russian troops, in line with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights under Article 39 of the Rules of the Court on 1 and 4 March.  

We support the establishment of a Special Tribunal for prosecution of the crime of aggression against Ukraine by the leadership of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, and their supporters.  

We urge the Members of the Legal Profession to oppose any attempts to break the Rule of Law in the world, to act as examples of integrity, civility and to stand up to their vocation and to support and defend the Rule of Law and Human Rights in the world as a non-negotiable basis for Peace and Security in the world and basis for civil society.
