Minecraft Meet-up In Peterborough Described As 'awful'

Minecraft meet-up in Peterborough described as 'awful'

14 September 2015

Minecraft gamers' parents are furious at the incessant queues and lack of activities at an unofficial convention.

About 4,100 people attended MineVention at the Peterborough Arena on Saturday to meet star players and play games.

But, many claimed that they waited in line for hours to see idols and eat food.

Lisa O'Brien, the organizer, stated that the queues were too long and that she would issue a statement regarding refunds in due time.

The event is not associated with Minecraft developer Mojang and was started in Ireland. It was the first time it had been held in the UK.

TV presenter

Fans of Minecraft, a worldwide gaming hit, were able to get photos taken and play games.

The event featured Jason Bradbury (TV's Gadget Show) as the host. Fans were also encouraged to dress up in Steve's costume to break a world-record.

It was then criticized by social media users for its long queues, insufficient food and merchandise stalls, as well as lack of activities for fans.

Vicky Abraham shared on Facebook that she had waited with her five-year old son for over an hour and only 30 seconds on a computer.

Another parent stated that she waited 45 mins to get water and called the event "appalling" and "naff-all". Another parent contacted the BBC to report that they left after half an hours because of the long queues and her son was "crying all along the way home".
ADDICT GAMING

Some posted on Facebook, however, that they left happy, with one saying: "I thought you put on a great event for PS15."

Lisa O'Brien, of O'Brien Event Management, said she did "sympathise with parents, as we all have children". Due to the large number of people who showed up on the day, rather than purchasing tickets in advance, queues were 45 minutes long, she said.

She stated that the convention was unprecedented in scale and that some official merchandise didn't arrive in time for it to take place.

She said organizers had "taken on all of your comments and suggestions" but would be meeting to determine what went wrong.
