The Nakhimov Naval School is a type of naval school in Russia and the USSR.
Unlike most naval schools, the Nakhimov Naval School is not a higher educational institution, but is focused on preparing students for study at military universities, like the Suvorov Military Schools. In the school, training consists of two parts: the secondary school program for the 5th – 11th grades and special naval training. At the end of the school, its graduates are not awarded an officer rank. The term of study is 7 years. Students at the Nakhimov Naval School and its graduates are called Nakhimovites.
Currently, the only operating Nakhimov Naval School is located in St. Petersburg.
The Nakhimov Naval School of St.Petersburg is a school for military sailors, which was opened in Leningrad in 1944. Named after Admiral Nakhimov. The school has been representing the Navy at military parades in Moscow and St. Petersburg for many years.
The building of the school is an object of cultural heritage of federal significance, located 150 meters from the banks of the Neva, opposite the parking lot of the cruiser “Aurora“. Built in 1909-1910 in the neo-Baroque style for the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Poltava, designed by A. I. Dmitriev and from the moment of construction it was used as a school (“City School House named after Peter the Great”). Alexander Benois and other masters from the World of Art association worked on the decor of the facades and interiors.
